Okay, I did A LOT this weekend, even a Sunday comic for Easter and I just ran out of steam and time. I will update this comic at some point Monday, but until then at least we all have this. Actually, in a more finished form, I would not mind this format. I am a sketch artist… I’z lovez me pencil drawings. I’m not hinting even the slightest that 1977 will go in this direction, I’m just passing along that I enjoy the pencil versions.

Oh, the title… a little old group out of London town back in the mid-70s calling themselves Japan. Say what, gov’nor? Anyway, they released their first album in 1978, but their 3rd album was appropriately titled for today’s comic. I did some research on songs about Polaroids, and they were either a tad filthy, or really, really depressing as in Alice Cooper’s 1978 song called “Quiet Room” which indeed does mention Polaroids he’s put up in the “quiet room” where he contemplates killing himself. Happy tune, there, Alice old boy! Eek… But, I liked this one and went with it!

As I recall, both “shit” & “crap” were part of a Carlin bit that actually preceded his famous “7 Words You Can’t Say on Television” routine. Since they’d already gotten a fair amount of “play”, he didn’t give them all that much time in the “7 Words” bit.

Gentlemen Take Polaroids is a great album, one of my faves. I used to blast it while driving my TR6 all over England with the roof down (once getting mild frostbite as a result). Definitely worth a listen, especially for the bass playing both on the title track and “swing”. Very Chris Squire-like. Not an unbent, unslid note in sight.
But it came out in the 80s, not the 70s. It was a great antidote to the endless synth bands of its time, and had a very end-of-the-70s feel with its lush production.

Hey Byron, as long as you’re being called on the carpet for lyrics, I’m gonna have to take exception to DMC_Run’s edit to you… The opening lyrics for “Kodachrome” are: “When I think (back on all) the crap I learned in high school…” Japan was a great band (at least I liked them with my very wide-ranging tastes) & they did have a great bass player in Mick Kern. Japan influenced the 80’s Euro Synth Pop sound and acts like Duran Duran, A Flock of Seagulls, and Gary Numan, etc., allot. If you liked them, you’ll probably like Japan.
