Today’s comic brought to you by the letters F and A… as in Fuckin’-A, man! As promised, Jeff’s double-sized blues song comic is here. The week has been a rough one with a ton of work and of course the launch of the Webcomic Alliance, but I digress.
I *cannot* take credit for the lyrics. The idea and set-up are mine, but thanks to my editor, Jeff has his own song. As much as my editor enjoys popping me upside the head with my silly redneck grammar infractions, she enjoys music even more. As a literary type, seems blues lyrics were up her alley. I for one am glad it is! So, a big thank you to my editor. Yay!
Love Bud in the final frame. The underlying theme originally was going to be they’ve lost their power and Jeff was going to be bemoaning their lose due to no cash, but this didn’t need the power company zinger at all, but having Bud with a lighter would have had two meanings with the original concept. Perhaps I’ll do the other one someday…
No song for today, as crap, we’ve got an original one that would fit nicely into 1977 blues rock just fine. So, hum the unknown melody in your head as you walk around the office today.

I been tryin’ to fit the lyrics to a modified Me an’ Bobby McGee-ish ballady-blues sorta thing. Not too shabby, actual … 🙂
Interesting 2nd thought on that … any chance Lorraine does more than just vocals ..? Maybe a weird-mad extra skill, like blowing a badass bit of harmonica? Some of my favorite bands tend to be ones where a male and a female can switch off on lead vocals and extend the range of songs offered up in any given set.
I’ve decided to imagine Jeff with more of a Kenny Wayne Shepherd voice, rather than, say, an Axl Rose. Not sure about Lorraine yet, but it’s gotta be an all-out, powerful Grace Slick/ Janice Joplin kinda energy.
Maybe she should be a secret banjo genius. After all, Dolly Parton found a way to play banjo…
Think more of mournful honky-tonk, with reflections along the lines of ‘broke down engine, got no driving wheel…’ 😉

That’s about as classic as it gets, fo’ shur ’nuff. I actually heard Bob Weir’s voice doing the Grateful Dead’s cover of Me an’ Bobby McGee when I saw the comic come up, so that’s what I went with when I tried to sing it out.
But, with the recent ZZ Top discussion, I also felt rubbing a touch of Texas Flood on it would be more along something Jeff might try … thus the Kenny Wayne reference. Could’ve said Stevie Ray, but I like the warmer, deeper tones that Kenny Wayne puts out … surprising when you hear that coming out of such a scrawny-looking body. Thought I’d give Jeff the benefit of the doubt.
Ah, Kenny Wayne. Nice music, shame about the father-in-law 😛

Man, you definitely delivered great on your promise. I love the lyrics, tell your Editor she did well. Jeff may want to get several pairs of those working shoes to go along with his job-huntin shoes cause I have a feeling he’s gonna pound a lot concrete with his little piggies to get all that cash earned.
