Today’s comic gave me hell. As a practice, I script ahead as many comics as is feasible. Sometimes as many as 15 ro 20 strips are scripted waiting to be drawn in sequence. Today’s comic came to life and I hated it.

I had it completely drawn, inked and was ready to colorize it (a bit time consuming, so I usually pause for a moment to look over the strip) and I came to the conclusion it was too serious. It had a semi-funny ending that I was not thrilled with once I saw it in comic form. I’m a video writer, so I’m use to writing with little tiny storyboards, and this one looked fine in that form, but not so when I finished it. I vowed to myself to keep “1977” light and funny, and to never have one of those “On Tonight’s Very Special Episode of…” gimicks the Networks here in the USA like to pull. They take a normally funny sitcom and inject a serious storyline that really brings you down. Well, the original of this was not a bummer, but it was too damn serious.

I re-wrote the entire strip only having to swap out and add some elements to the 3rd and 4th panels so they made sense. This is not really that funny, but a helluva lot funnier then the first version. I’m going to release a CD-ROM of all the strips from 2007 & 2008 at the end of this year and I’m keeping these “rejects” for those “rabid” fans that like to look at that sort of stuff (all three of you). 🙂

Oh, if you don’t know what the title is about, Google Interruptus and you’ll find out! 🙂
