Tonight, on a very special 1977 the Comic…

Bull.  But I really liked this one, I even took out the “joke” in the third panel.  It originally had Robyn in the background running with  her hair still on fire.  It did several things I think to detract from the comic.  One, it really made Lorraine out an idiot, and she’s not really stupid but oblivious sometimes.  Two, it also took away from Lorraine’s moment of realizing she’s adopted.  So, I like this one.  The laughs return on Wednesday, so never fear, I’m not going all serious on you.

I actually introduced this idea of Lorraine being adopted two years ago.  At that point Lorraine mis-read adopt for adept, and couldn’t figure out why her Mom was pointing out that she was, in fact, adept.  I actually didn’t like that comic all that much, because it too emphasized Lorraine as a simpleton, and she’s not.  She’s savvy in certain areas, but you’ll find that out here soon enough.

A little more Joe Cocker.  This time pulling from his “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” live album.   A great song that goes along with today’s comic nicely, even though it’s about a guy getting a letter from his “baby” where she states she’s missing him.  The original song by the Box Tops clocked in at a brisk two minutes.  Pretty standard for 60s radio songs.  Short songs equal more time for talk and commercials.   Mostly commercials.
