Today’s comic is based loosely on my real-life experience of watching a movie called “The Last Dinosaur” with Richard Boone in 1977. Having done a little investigating, I found out this was produced in Japan to be released in America as a theatrical release. But, not a single distribution company wanted it. So it was sold to ABC as a “movie of the week” special and cut down from 106 minutes to 92 minutes.
So to prepare for a seemingly bad movie back in 1977, I made a pitcher of Vodka Collins and proceeded to drink nearly the entire pitcher during this really stinky movie. Needless to say, when I stood up, I passed right out. My roommate put me on my bed to sleep it off. I woke up enough to go throw up everything I drank and ate that evening then went back to bed. I felt horrible for about 2 days. Beware of Vodka. Kicks your butt every time!
2022 Note: Found this clip from the movie from the Warner Bros. YouTube channel. Apparently this film was released on DVD in 2011. I’ll have to track it down. But from this clip you’ll see how cheesy the effects are. They even borrow Godzilla’s roar for the T-Rex’s roar!
“The Last Dinosaur” was inspired by a series of books by “Tarzan”-author Edger Rice Burroughs, about a savage land (“Pellucidar”) in the center of a hollow Earth. While Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” was published earlier, “E.R.B.” created the idea of a huge drilling machine that one could ride into the depths, which was used by the 1977 TV-show.
I’m impressed by your knowledge of books and stuff! Nicely done!
I’ve enjoyed Richard Boone ever since his iconic role in “Have Gun, Will Travel”.
That was a great show as kid for me as well.
