Lorraine’s farts are world renowned, but alas it was something else Jeff was smelling. The end is near! Well, so to speak.
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “That Smell” has nothing to do with exploding gas tanks and vinyl pellets, but it still makes a great title for today’s comic. Released in 1977, this is what Wikipedia has to say about the song: “Van Zant said, “I had a creepy feeling things were going against us, so I thought I’d write a morbid song (as a warning).” The lyrics cautioned that “tomorrow might not be here for you”, and that “the smell of death surrounds you”. Three days after the album was released, the band was devastated by a plane crash killing several members including Van Zant.” It was a shocking time for me as I really liked the band and related to their Southern Rock roots big time. A number of pop/rock personalities lost their lives in those old planes bands use to fly in (DC-3s to be exact). The crash happened on October 3rd, 1977.
Man, I so love seeing the sketchwork! Lorraine looks fantastic. I thoroughly enjoy http://yafgc.net/ for this reason, as well as Brooke McEldowney’s Pibgorn “sketchbook:” http://www.gocomics.com/pibgornsketches (back up a few pages; he’s currently not updating while he revisits an old story arc with added, new commentary …. something you could consider: http://www.gocomics.com/pibgorn ).
I think you already used “Blinded By The Light” at some point (?) … would’a been appropriate for this page. I really liked it when you tried to name each comic for a song title. I realize how much of a chore that was, but it was a major cool gimmick.
I’m really hoping to hear and see Good Things happening for you, dude. Well, for all of us, actually. I’m diving into my third year of suckage right now and hoping to pull out a bit as 2012 starts to come upon us.
As soon as I saw the comic title appear in my RSS feed, I started humming the chorus.
I wonder if this will destroy all of the evidence needed to clear the gang’s good name ? 🙁
Ohh-kayyy, my dirty secret is out: seeing Jeff topless turns me on even more than seeing Lorraine topless does…
I’ll lay 5:1 Odds that Bud and Danger Aren’t gonna have their threads intact. And knowing Byron, he won’t let Bud and the others continue to take the rap….Besides, people are not very fast when they don’t know the danger of explosive gasses being near an open flame
Man, Byron, I’m loving the excitement in danger in this story arc. Nice blend.
Oh my god Nick actually made sense oh and record company was a flop.
