Good Update from 2021:
The Pandemic is Over and I’m Back!
What’s really happened is that my doctor found the right mix of anti-depressants and ADHD medications that have given me, and my art, a second life. I’m not entirely “normal” yet, but it’s getting better as each month passes. So, ignore the post below, as I have come back from retirement. So, ignore the crossed-out text below. I’m back!
Time to say farewell to 1977!
It’s been a fun ride since 2008 when I first started the comic, but with all the changes in the world, and especially with me approaching retirement age, drawing a comic about my college years is not as motivating as it was when I was 50 years old. I will miss these characters, but they will live on here in the whacky world known at the Internet. I occasionally go back through the archives and it reminds me of all the fun I had creating the comic and interacting with all my readers over the years. I had the best readers and we all got along as we chuckled at the adventures of Bud and his friends.
And it’s fitting to let Lorraine and Robyn take us out on a bang! The comic didn’t really take off until I added these two into the mix of characters. And of course…
Thank You For The Feeling!
I will let one of my favorite bands take us out with a fun tune from their debut album in 1973.
Ha ha ha!
Don’t light a match.
Apart from being a minor fire hazard farting on a shared blow dryer is just ewwwww gross. Would you use a farted on blow dryer no wonder Robyn is disappointed still it look like fun. They have the flaming farting man at the Montreal comedy festival he has a device that turns farts to sparks wearing only a powder blue Mercury helmet and thigh high boots. I guess it’s easy to be gross.
This is awesome dude ????????, I might think about you doing a commission for me of your character Lorraine in a sexy pose around my birthday in two months ?. Maybe another version of her letting one go if you know what mean ?.
Gonna miss 1977! It was my favorite year in high school, met my current wife, reunited after 26 years apart. Loved watching your art style progress. Bud in that baseball jersey could easily have been me. Happy retirement and thanks for the free funny!
Thank you, Andy! Every time I tried to come back to the comic, something always got in the way. Last year I started a comeback with these comics and the pandemic hit which stopped everything. I took that as a sign I should move on. I thought about it for a year and decided to just go ahead and pull the plug. I’m so glad people like you enjoyed my silly cartoons. 🙂
Had some good fun reading these comics man. I’m a bit sad to see it end. But in the end, you gotta look out for number one! ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph4i29SqUFg , Time appropriate too!)
Anyway, all the best to you! Ti was a good ride wnile it lasted.
Thank you, Michael!
Well, if you gotta, you gotta…and with this you at least go out with a bang. Enjoy retirement.
Thank you for your support over the years, Robert!
Thank you for all the great Comics! I hope you enjoy your retirement. If you ever get bored and want to add a new comic or two along, we’ll definitely enjoy them.
Thank you, Van! I never say never about new comics. I may get the itch again someday.
Well, I kept checking back for updates and I find this. Sorry to see ot go. I was looking forward to the group as middle aged rockers. Does the band “get back together”, that kind of thing. But, you have to do what you feel is best for you. Thanks for the stories. By the way, weren’t you doing something with a sports car of some sort? What ever happened to that?
I am a firm believer in “Never say never” about things, as life is always changing. I had hoped to do more with the characters through the different decades, but alas it was not meant to be… so far.
I think you are referring to my 1993 Miata which my son and I were restoring. As with any old car, it is a constant work in progress. You can see my progress over on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/miata_frblxl5/
While I understand your reasons for stopping, I’ll admit to being disappointed. It was the only comic I’ve seen about my generation (well, roughly so – I was 16 in 1977, so a couple of years younger than the gang – but close enough), and even if many of my experiences from those years were rather different (I’m European and never had abilities or indeeed ambitions as a rock musician) there were still a lot of memories brought to life. But again, I can see why the travails that society in general and you in particular have gone through during the last years would break down your motivation. So, thanks for what was
You are quite welcome! And I’m glad I helped keep your 1977 memories alive.
Hey man, that was fun while it lasted. Thanks a lot for making 1977, and all the best!
You are quite welcome! It was a helluva ride for sure!
Every so often, I come back and read from the beginning. Thanks for the memories ~
Aw, thank you! It is fun to re-read it on occasion. I forget all the stuff I’ve done with the comic since 2008. I’m glad you enjoyed the comic and that I helped create some memories for you!
Just like a “rock & roll comic”, you’re getting back in it after your latest farewell tour… 😉
