Heh-heh… a little poke at the KGB of 1977… It is my understanding that hotel rooms of visiting westerners were bugged… seems kinda crazy but it was different age for sure. Like the USA doesn’t do that, eh? HA! 🙂
A little trivia… the door should say in Russian “Hotel California” and on the speaker box it should say “Radio Shack” but I got it from a translation website, so if it says something else, at least I tried! 🙂
And the comic’s title is a funny little movie (about the last funny one Chevy Chase did in fact).
Discussion (12) ¬
Is it merely a coincidence that the KGB agents look like Riker and Picard?
(Oh, and you can never have too many naked girls in your comics.)
Great strip!
Must say though, this was the singularly most complex strip transcribed until now for WordOwl. Still, I think I have the hang of writing Russian characters now…
Kevin: You win the prize of the day! Yes, that is Picard and Riker… well drawn rather poorly by me, but none the less, it is our fearless Captain and his Number One!
I love doing stuff like that! See who catches it or if I’m just a bit crazy. A little of both I’d say!
Nice catch! 🙂
WordOwl: Yeah, there is a TON of stuff going on. Russian lettering, cameras, speakers, TV monitors, KGB guys and a great pillow fight.
I know girls just don’t do this (well, in THAT fashion) but the inspiration was that great scene in “Animal House” where John Belushi is on the ladder spying on the sorority house. “Animal House” practically ruled my entire senior year in college. I kinda lived it a bit too much, but I was young and more than a tad stupid. 🙂
Actually, the biggest problem was that darn Russian lettering; everything else (other than the pillow fight) is pretty straightforward for transcriptions.
I did also include the English translations in the search index in case anyone was searching for those too.
I haven’t seen National Lampoon’s “Animal House” in way too long…
your russian is correct 🙂 and the Radio-Shack is a rather literal translation 🙂 but i got it…
Greetings tpau! I was at least hoping to the get the idea across, so it seems I was successful. Being a brand name, I’m hoping to crack a few smiles for those who speak Russian. Thanks for dropping by!
I won!
Hmm… I think I’ll take the cruise.
Oh, the Hawiian cruise is TODAY’s prize… you get a stick of gum… better luck next time! 🙂
Rats!
….who said girls don’t actually do that?! Pillow fights are really fun!
