An instant request from the Hot Line! That’s right, request a song title and maybe, just maybe, I’ll use it! This time, lucky Dana gets the request honors. Rock on, man…
And Zorphbert and Fred drop in on 1977. Haven’t heard of Dawn’s webcomic yet? Where have you been? Yep, talking in class… www.zfcomics.com is the place to find our two aliens dressed as dogs studying Earth. Perhaps Jeff will get them high…
C2E2 this weekend. I should have a comic up Friday. If not, then pictures of the first day for sure. I’m packing tomorrow, setting up Thursday, getting really drunk Thursday night with a bunch of Canadians and Dawn, then showtime Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Bring the Mountain Dew, man, I’m gonna need it…
A little George Carlin for your Wednesday as he talks about Dogs.
**************************
Have fun with Dawn at the convention.
I’m hoping, that even though she’s sitting next to me at the table, I won’t have time to have fun with her as we’ll *both* be so busy with people the time will fly by.
But, I know Saturday night that Antoine, Kurt, Dawn and I (and anyone else) will probably head out for a night of fun in Chicago. Deep Dish Pizza for everyone!
🙂
Ohh-kayyy…you are rapidly becoming the best tit man in comixdom. Seriously. Expect a call from the Hef for a staff cartooning position soon 😀
I had a Jupiter 8 once…
~grins, ducks and runs~
I draw what I know and have study the subject extensively… 🙂
Actually, drawing for Playboy would be way cool. They push the edge with their comics and I’ve always enjoyed them.
Did your Jupiter 8 have a sticky hyper-drive as well?
😛
For some reason, your ‘study the subject extensively’ makes me think back to the Plaster Casters… 😀
I hadn’t seen a copy of Playboy for years, and then got on a couple of years ago just to see if their interviews were still class (no, really. Playboy always did the best and most intelligent interviews this side of Rolling Stone). I was dead disappointed to find that Playboy had discovered pussy. Full Brazilian’d pussy no less. What a disappointment – bring back the amusingly coy, plasticated, vagina?-what-vagina? babes, I say!
Dude. Never mind the synth, *I* had a sticky hyperdrive 😛
Aw, man! A Purple reference and no Purple! Still, that’s okay – I pulled up “Space Truckin” on Grooveshark anyway, and discovered an all-instrumental version of “Fireball” that rocks like mad. You got me in a Purple state of mind, so now my morning playlist is DP to the core. Thanks, Bryon, and have a great time at the con! 🙂
Oh, and yes – your gift for portraying bountiful cleavage is lovely to behold. 🙂
I see purple all the time, don’t you? 😛
Deep Purple MKII is one of the best damn rock groups of their time. Man, could Gillian scream out the vocals. Blackmore had an ego bigger than his Marshall stacks, but still did some great guitar stuff. But Lord’s organ playing always made want to play keyboards more. I like the “Fireball” ablum better than “Machine Head” and “Made IN Japan” ruined more than one set of car speakers for me.
🙂
@Satyrblade
No Purple?? You didn’t watch the video, did you? The perfect background music for all those 70’s Video games! Too many people seem to think the 80’s invented video games.
I remember all those games, I played most of them too. The old Southdale Mall Arcade has a lot of my best 1970’s memories. “Southdale, was America’s first modern mall” If there is a film clip that just makes me want to jump through the screen its this! I’d go back to the 70’s in a heartbeat, though I wound seriously try to smuggle the iPod though customs………….
Hey, the Atari home video game console was released in 1977! What about TRON? Hello everyone? Yeah, we didn’t have the fancy graphics of today, but we had beer and pot to make up for it…
🙂
AUGHHH! omg, what a great surprise! It’s so awesome that we’re both doing convention storylines now. Cannot believe it’s just 2 days away, whew!
LOL! Well, one of us is looking at the others’ sketchbook ideas as we come up with similar ideas all the time! Great minds sort of thingy… or weak one in my case.
You’re welcome. Z&F has been begging for an appearance in 1977 and what better way to do it? Of course, Bud and Lily are oblivious… can’t they see the zippers?
😛
Awesome guest appearance in today’s strip, good to see Fred and Zorphbert. You know they like to experiment with soda pop to see what the effects are, so better keep Zorphbert away from the Mary Jane, he might try testing out different varieties on Fred.
I remember the first time I dressed up for a “Optional” Costume Party, and was standing there decked out as Stephen Urkel from Family Matters, and started noticing that most people chose the Opt Out part of the optional title. I started getting nervous at first thinkin’ I was gonna be one of the very few in costume, but fortunately most of the late arrivals were decked out in some pretty fancy themed stuff, guess they ran late to make an entrance. I just remember feeling like I was going to be that odd ball kid again. 🙂
If I have time, Z&F may be lucky enough to have time to drop by Jeff’s place for some… well, studying of Earth cultures.
🙂
See, I’m so outgoing that I can be the only one dressed up in the room and not care. I have a full “Lost In Space” silver space suit costume (that I’m way to heavy for) and will wear it at Halloween sometimes. I had to go get more Candy and walked into Target that way. Everyone is looking at me and I’m just like “Yeah, how YOU doin’?” I love dressing up.
My very first Star Trek convention I wore a hand-made “Lost In Space” logo sweatshirt just to piss off all the Trekkers. I’m that way…
🙂
The Made in Japan version of Space Trucking is one of my self-selected instructional lessons on how monophonic synth is supposed to be played. Jon Lord gives a taste at the intro to Lazy, and then lets rip 5 minutes into Space Trucking with perhaps the most amazing mono synth solo set ever. Yeah, pure analog, baby! Twisting knobs and pressing switches, one note at a time, my kind of playing!
Of course I merely aspire to be able to play like that, but that Space Trucking solo is one of the reasons I went for the Minimoog OS over the other Voyagers — MIDI and patch memory, who needs them? Jon Lord sure didn’t in 1972.
Ah, Minimoogs. The wondrously weird noises. The infinite variety of narrow-range options. The tuning drift… ~wipes away a nostalgic tear~ 😛
I used to make the music of the heavens on a Moog Satellite. Those were the days…
Moog Synths… ah, man, you’re bringing back some fond memories..
Here’s a shot of my PAIA synthesizer (a kit built synth) and our Moog Satellite. I loved the little Satellite, made a ton of noise with it, especially cranked through a spring reverb (remember those?).
http://tr-one.com/scifi/paia/my_paias.htm
Mono-synths rocked the world for years and there’s nothing like the fat sound of an old (or new) analog synthesizer. Love it, man…
🙂
Wonderful page there! I had no idea you ever interacted with synths. You’re a man of many surprises 🙂
My eldest bro still has my original Moog and Minimoog from waaaay back. There was a time when he’d rigged them up together as a burglar alarm. All together now: ‘Daww!’
Excellent page. 😀
The new Minimoog OS doesn’t seem to drift much like the old ones, but it does come up in slightly different tune every time it’s turned on. I have an electronic guitar tuner plugged into the headphones socket so I can set the fine tuning each time. 🙂
Aaaaagh! Zorfred and Bert!
Cross-overs always get comic fans all tingly.
