My wife picked out her first stereo because it had pretty blue lights. I just slapped my forehead and rolled my eyes. At one point in my silly life, especially in the late ’70s, I was quite the audiophile and was rather a geek about it. If I could have sat still long enough, I would have become a recording engineer and was even a student member of the Audio Engineer Society for a few years. But, luckily hyper-activity kept me out of the engineer’s chair. Oddly enough, I have to sit still for quite a while to draw comics, so there’s some irony for you. Speaking of drawing…
Ever have those days that no matter what you do, everything turns to shit… at least you think it does? Yeah, that was my Sunday. I started this comic twice. Even the second version pissed me off so much I had to walk away from it. Then I hated everything I drew. Bud was not bent correctly, Lorraine’s look in the final panel still isn’t right. But eventually you take enough walks and finally go “Fuck it, I gotta get it done.” and somehow you do. I imagine this is why God created alcohol. 😛
A little Cars today from their first album in 1978. By far their best album with “Bye Bye Love” ranking pretty high on the old “crank it to 11” chart for me.

I have exactly … and, I do mean e x a c t l y … that identical problem with computers. I am the go-to guy for computing technology in my circle. I constantly knock myself out to get them fairly incredible deals. And then I’m told they are disappointed because the color of their laptop doesn’t match the color of their printer and it clashes with “the look” they want. Which point is always made after said purchases & installations have been finalized.
Actually, I’ve finally given up, several hundred unpaid hours of my professional time later in the last three years alone. There’s only a very select few friends that I offer any advice or help to on the topic anymore.
We all have little quirks that we know about. 🙂
I’m sort of like that when it concerns Marvel comics.
Here’s hoping you told your wife the true differences in stereo selection. 🙂
I know what you mean with things not turning out right with drawing comics. Yesterday, I was drawing my first strip of my upcoming “Reaper’s Legacy” comic. I finally got the necessary backgrounds done then realized that the ears weren’t visible on my characters and their shoes weren’t done with enough detail to make them believable. But guess what, these “mistakes” will have to wait for my future strips to be worked out because it’s still possible to get the story behind the strip and I want to get started posting my webcomic online ASAP. Therefore, I’m just going to add color and post it as is.
Sorry, but I’m with Lorraine on this one. Back in the day, those blue lights were SWEET! 😀
Ha! A friend of mine had the same ‘problem’ with his girlfriend, so he bought the good stereo, opened it up and swapped out the lights.
Best of both worlds.
Hey, my first really good stereo (an awsome Sansui rig – still have the rec/amp) had pretty blue lights!
GREAT Cars tune, probably my favorite by them on a long list of favorite Cars tunes… & while the song itself is killer, how could you ever forget it from the Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Phoebe Cates pool scene!!
To quote from Benjamin Franklin “Beer is proof that there is a God and he wants us to be happy.”
‘Nuff Sed
+1 “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”!
I have the same issue, if it’s shiny, or bright, or moves around, it takes my attention away from the smart choices! [grin]
Hmm. I once bought a house because I liked the look of the front door…
“I imagine this is why God created alcohol.” – I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around 😉
Teaching my wife’s little girl the important things in life . . . direct-drive turntables and 7mm headphone jacks! We can ADD the blue lights! (^_^)
