Welcome back my friends… to the show that occasionally goes on hiatus. 🙂 And welcome back Poco, the fire breathing pet lizard! Jeff’s only pet (well, for now…).
Today kicks off a new storyline in 1977: Jobs & Money. The lack thereof more like it. I hinted at this way back in February and never got it running. I do that. So, with the hiatus, I’ve organized the next two major storylines. This one leads to the group going back on the road, but I wanted to get this story out of the way first. With the USA’s economy and job market sucking so bad, I figured we could all relate to our gang needing to make more money and their efforts to “get a real job”.
I am a fan of The Babys music as they made a splash back in ’77/’79 and the eventual solo career of lead singer John Waite. The Babys were pretty much ignored but they did manage to crank a number of decent tunes out in their short career.
If you play the 6 Degrees of Rock Music (ala Kevin Bacon) The Babys would hire Jonathan Cain as a keyboardist in 1979. Cain would leave the Babys to replace Journey keyboardist Gregg Rollie (of Santana originally). Cain was born in Franklin Park, Illinois and released a solo album in 1976 on the Bearsville label (remember them?). I’ve been drunk in Franklin Park, so Cain and I are practically related. See how that works? Neat… What’s your 6 Degrees of Rock and Roll?
🙂

Those bastards! 😉 (I was one of ’em for a while … I know just how “unreliable” they can be)
Dude, improvements everywhere to be seen … characters, colors! Evil s#!t-eating grin on Bud’s face is classic! 😀
Really looking forward to watching this train run. Thank you for sharing!
I knew there was a reason Journey’s Escape album was the first album I bought at the K-Mart in Alsip…ah, good times, good times…
Good luck making money worries and the job market funny!
Great to see things are poppin’ again in 1977! Looking forward to the shenanigans that await! …Yup, I used the word shenanigans.
Dunno about six degrees of rock & roll…well, let’s try Robert Plant. Been listening to him since I was 2. Like Plant, I’ve damn near died in Snoqualmie Pass (though never as spectacularly as the winter Richard Cole, driving the lead truck himself, blew the convoy past a roadblock and the semi with Robert and Bonzo in it nearly slid backward off a mountain while Cole was taking a piss in a blizzard). And I got him to wave at me once…gal next to me at an open-air show couldn’t quite see if that was him by the side door, so she screamed “Hey Bobby baby!” at the top of her lungs. When he whipped around, she ducked, so I waved, he waved back, and then he mule-kicked the door shut–didn’t seem to be in a great mood about whatever conversation he was involved in…Oh, and my actual Bacon Number is 3, 2 different ways, which is funny as hell considering not only am I not in any aspect of the entertainment business, I’m in freakin’ Montana! I should note I acquired both Bacon Numbers years ago while living in the Pacific NorthWet.
i could tell you, but then i’d have to ki…^h^h^h^h^h make you smoke this funny cigarette…
+make you(damn, i wish you could edit yer replies…;)you magnificently evil … err… correctional typist? 😀
thanks for correcting the mistake for me…
AND YOU EVEN ADDED ITALICS!
no fair! i wanna add italics. 😉
and see? yer already one step ahead of it all since you already smoke the funny cigarettes! now you just need to smoke this *special* one that makes you forget all the stuff i toldja in emails… 😉
I have the Baby’s greatest hits. So underrated. “Everytime I think of You” should be the title of a cartoon soon.
Welcome back, Byron.
Well, I know a guy who ghost wrote a couple of stories for Courtney Love’s Princess Ai manga, and she was married to Kurt Cobain, and he said one of his biggest musical influences was The Chipmunks Sing the Beatles, so that puts me five steps from John Lennon. Six if you count the Princess Ai editor since my friend and Courtney never actually met face to face.
As for the Kevin Bacon Game, I met C. Thomas Howell on a shoot once, he appeared with Tom Cruise in “The Outsiders,” and Cruise played opposite Kevin Bacon in “A Few Good Men.” I guess that makes my Kevin Bacon number 3, also.
Welcome back 1977. See we are heating things up today. Can’t wait to see what lies ahead in this story arc.
You just can’t trust the postal system. They’ll lose your bills every time. 🙂
The comic looks great, Byron! I love the new header too.
I really need to get myself a fire-breathing reptile to dispose of those pesky court summons…and when he grows up he can destroy entire courthouses!
back in business! unlike the pesky postal service.. man, they keep losing that $1 million check I tell them is headed my way in the mail. bastards.
Welcome baaaaack!! 😀 *happy dance* I can finally move your bookmark back into my “updates regularly” list.
Woohoo! I go away for a few days and look what’s waiting when I get back! In the words of one of my favourite mondegreens, ‘awesome shootin’, hombre!’ 😀
