To get myself back in the mood of drawing comics, I updated this comic from May of 2009, a mere 13 years ago! At the time, this was one of my favorite comics and it was on my PC’s desktop for a long time. The reason I chose this comic is because I was talking to a client today about Polaroid cameras and showed them the original of this comic. And when I look at any of my older comics, I cringe at many things, so this one got updated today.
Here’s the original comic:
Here’s what’s changed:
- I’ve often wondered why I used such an ugly flesh tone in the early days. So, that’s been changed!
- I changed Lorraine’s camera from an SX-70 to a Land Camera. Why? One, I couldn’t find a 3D model of the SX-70, and two, because I discovered the SX-70 was an expensive camera and broke musicians could not afford them.
- You can see the background is completely different and I think the new background works so much better and was easier to create. I don’t consider using 3D models cheating. If it saves me time and the frustration of having to create an complete tavern background, then I’m all for it.
- The thing that sticks out to me is that I didn’t put in the highlights of the camera’s flash on Lorraine’s conquest in the third frame. The sound effect is there, but not the lighting, which makes the final frame kind of stupid as there was no flash going off.
- And finally, I updated the dialog and its placement. I have honed my writing skills to get ideas across in as few words as possible.
New stuff in June as I have primed my motor to start drawing again. Meanwhile, enjoy some “Tush” the way it’s meant to be heard… live! And of course, still miss Dusty Hill. π
Looks like she’s a crack shot with that camera π
Yeah, yeah I know, I’ll show myself out
Or you could say she can sniff out a good shot…
I’ll join you in the slow walk out. π
It’s a start.
Then she flashed him…right in front of the cheap drinks π

I had a polaroid camera it was fun taking snap shots but film was out of production so traded for a digital camera. Never took bum pictures like Lorraine and digital are complicated guessing how to print the pictures. It would be cool if blink 182 run naked in front of plan 9. But then I doubt if Cindy Margolous was having a web bikini contest at whisky a go go when you were there oh hedonism. At least I enjoy the irony of a Donald Trump appointed judge striking Tennessee anti drag law bet that hypocritical governor is mad as a hatter. But since they have a ban on drag in North Carolina at least I won’t embarrass you by dressing as Josie and the Pussy cats wearing a leopard printed body suit and matching heels fun to wear on Halloween.

The best part, and probably the biggest selling point (and they knew it) was that you could take pictures and nobody else would see them because you didn’t have to drop them off or mail them in to be developed. π
they’re making those cameras again (https://www.polaroid.com/en_us/collections/instant-cameras)! the film is monstrously expensive, but what isn’t?
It always drove me nuts that in the big final scene in the Movie musical of Hair when they have the huge gathering in front of the White House, they tried to keep everybody in mode, and all the costumes on point and one person right in the middle riding on somebody’s shoulders has one of those white plastic Polaroid one steps with the rainbow stripe that won’t come along for another half decade at least. This is why period movies tend to drive me nuts. I’m a watch/tech geek and it seems they almost never get that right either. I can still remember Tom Bosley wearing a digital watch on Happy days. When they do get it right its great. Like Johnny Depp wearing an Alsta Nautoscaph in Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Though he should ahve been wearing an Accutron Spaceview. Wow I’m way off point. ADD for the win……….
Spotting anachronisms, background clutter and just plain missed things a continuity director should have caught is part of the fun in watching movies, especially when watching them a second time like reflections of the crew in windows or things moving around between shots or appearing/disappearing/changing.
Little things like spotting airliner contrails and marks left by rubber treaded tires in old westerns is a favourite, or a pickup truck driving along a road in the distance π
I almost compulsively look for firearms that haven’t been introduced in the time frame being represented as a guilty pleasure.
Like the way they always have 90% of the German soldiers with Luger P08s in WWII movies instead of the far more common for the time Walther P38s?
Or everyone with an MP-40 and few if any of the far more common MP-38’s or 28’s π
Some films even have German soldiers carrying Lee-Enfields o.O
A lot of the time it’s because that was available to be used so they made do, like painting US tanks grey and calling them German, Rat Patrol among others was famous for that, and pre-CGI, there was only so much kit to go around.
This is a fascinating site that tries to list everything used in every movie ever made, and isn’t shy about pointing out anachronisms or substitutes.
Be prepared to lose a few hours or maybe days checking out your favourite movies/tvshows/anime/etc.
You can search by title, actor’s name and even individual weapon type.
I’ve found very few mistakes in it and even then they’re still plausible by obscure variant or set armourer tinkering π

Mussolini backed a movie about ancient Rome called Scipio Africanus that clearly has power lines in a battle scene, some extras clearly are wearing wrist watches.
I can’t remember if it was Ben Hur or Spartacus that had Roman Legionnaries lined up and a pickup truck clearly drove by in the background throughout the entire shot π
You still alive out there? Getting kind of worried………
Check the latest update! I’m still here! π
