Annie has been a minor character for some time now. She lives next door to Bud and Jeff and is usually annoying them with her pet hamster. But since I retired the first year of comics, Annie hasn’t been seen all that much (except for when Jeff modified her Big Wheel once). So, Annie was originally in grade school, maybe 8 years old. So, I’ve “aged” her through the miracle of a Time/Warp Shift in the Universe and now she’s closer to 13 and will begin to show signs of having a young girl’s crush on Jeff. Bud, of course, will just annoy her. Who can blame him, she just shot him in the ass.
Speaking of Bud’s ass… it’s been the target of several injuries now. (See some of the suggested comic titles below) First a soldering iron injury, then he shot himself in the ass and now an arrow has punctured his gluteus maximus. More on that someday too.
Been a while since I did any Benatar, and what better song than “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” for today? Yeah, I’m sure you’ll tell me. Anyone, rock this one while you read the comic.

not really an Annie Oakley is she.
No. 😛
Whaddaya mean, “not really an Annie Oakley”…???!?
…she got him on the 1st try, didn’t she?
😛
😉
🙂
growing up in the south, i have an arrow injury, in the ass. i wasn’t shot, i sat on a 3 bladed razor sharp broad head. even with jeans it required bandages.
pat benatar rules. STILL.
It’s Pat! (RE: the SNL skits…)
Yes, she does. 🙂
Bud used to be able to sit down, then he took an arrow in his ass…. 😉
Who knows what future threats will be in store for Bud’s Ass?
😛
Welllll … he seems able to make it through airport detectors these days. So, can’t be too much shrapnel embedded. Um. Metal shrapnel. 😀
Hmmm. I think I’m now working on a new TSA pick-up line. Something like “Well, ma’am. I think it’s an old archery range wound. Or, maybe I do have balls of steel like folks keep tellin’ me …” Rub a bit of Texas drawl on that and it’ll work. Really …
Isnt that bow/arrow what all the teenagers are using to kill one another for sport in that “Hunger Games” movie?!? … which I’m fine with, as long as no one leaves one of those whipper snappers with an arrow in its backside on my front lawn! #GetOffMyLawn
It would seem that I’m channeling that book/film series even though I’ve never read the books nor will I see the film(s).
And yes, no dead bodies in my lawn… I just fertilized the damn thing.
😛
But bodies make the very best fertiliser!
Lucky for Bud, that appears to be a target arrow, rather than a hunting broadhead. There are serious degrees to “pain-in-the-ass.” I’d guess he won’t be sitting comfortable for several weeks, and that’s the sort of injury that requires a “Good Friend” to tend to. Will Jeff draw “danger duty” ..? 😉
I worked construction with an old Navy salt who did a decade of duty in Cuba from about 1968-ish onward. He mentioned once or twice that “A Buddy never lets you down when flack is in the air. But, a Good Buddy is one who takes leave, gets two blow jobs in town and brings one back for you.”
🙄
Soooo … on one of our forays back to the modern timeline, will Bud be showing off his scars to Lorraine ..? She could about read his ass like a braille history of misfortune by now. In the dark, even. 😛
Yea! Pat Benatar! ANYtime, anytime at all! 🙂
I know *nothing* about archery and I’m not a toxophilite at all. I just make this shit up. I did look at archer poses so I got the hand positions right, but other than that… total BS. So, if I got it right, then stroke one up for the old fart’s imagination.
The blow job joke reminds me of the Tim Allen bit about who better than to give you a blow job then another man? “Hey Bob, you look a little down. Come on over here, buddy!” Now, I find that funny as hell, but some guys look at you funny when you retell that joke. Some guys…
And YES! Benatar!
🙂
Hahahaha!!!!! ….. too late!!!!! 😀
By the way, the strip looks great even it is not finished yet.
Thanks, man! I often struggle if I should just do the comic in B&W and leave it more like this (which to me is more how I envision it).
Oh, well. Decisions, decisions.
🙂
You know me … whenever I get to see the sketch-up, I consider it a bonus strip. As far as I’m concerned, you can post a link to the pre-ink for every strip. That reduce the Decisions a little bit ..? 😉
As always, dude. Thanks for the gift. Always enjoy stopping by and seeing that you’re still at it.
Woops! Too late xD!
It’s like you read in an instructional manual “Before inserting CD…” Yeah, already did that… DOH!
😛
Loving it equally in monochrome and colour. Sometimes I prefer one or the other for a particular strip, but these are tied!
Yeah, this one has the same feel either way. Some are way better in pencils, and some are way better in color. Ah, if only I knew BEFORE inking them, I’d save myself some time.
🙂
Well at least she has good form.
Bud would beg to differ…
🙂
The ol’ “That’s gonna leave a mark…” certainly applies here! Closest I’ve got is a scar on the top of my right foot from playing mumblety peg with my cousin when I was about 12 (do kids even know what that is in our overly protective, safety-at-all-cost, helmet-&-pads-for-everything society now?).
A side note Byron – (yeah I know I’m known for those…) While I know that this is a strip about Sex, Drugs, & ROCK ‘N’ ROLL, I’ve always appreciated that you enjoy various music genres like me, & I think like me, appreciate musicianship & well crafted music be it pop, classical, jazz, etc. That being said, I have to pay homage to the passing yesterdayof a bluegrass & country legend, Earl Scruggs. How many people of our (& ensuing) generation/s were exposed to his mastery of the banjo thru the Beverly Hillbillies in our weekly tune in to – at least for us red-blooded males, ogle Elly May Clampett? A true giant in the music world, & from what I’ve heard & read about him, a true gentleman & great human being – a loss for all lovers of great music & musicianship.
Anyone near our age or older who had a TV set back in 1962 will remember when Jed Clampett and clan rolled on to our TVs. Flatt & Scruggs did the theme with some singer (I forget) and appeared as themselves in a few episodes. I remember also this was back in the day when they filmed commercials with the cast & can vividly remember the Frosted Flakes commercials Jed & Granny did.
Of course, I loved the truck. Have a model of it as too! (Yes, I will build any TV/Movie vehicle model!)
Scruggs was a great at his craft. I am not into that type of music, but there’s no denying the wealth of talent this guy had. “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” is a great toe tapper no matter who you are and I’ve added it above just under Pat’s song. Some cross programming going on there, for sure!
🙂
You reminded me of the commercials Bill Bixby & Ray Walston did, during their stint on [My Favorite Martian] – I used to have the boardgame that was based upon this TV-Show…
…wow do I ever feel oldnevermindbyenowKLIK
😛
🙂
I have a feelng that Big Wheel she rode helped her travel back in time a few years…..wonder if anyone remembers the Moifications Bud made to that one
Heart, “Dream of the archer”
Or even the Horslips again, “Furniture” –
“The best and straightest arrow
Is the one that will range
Far from the archer’s bow”
