Rhonda to the rescue! Updated hairdo… centerfolds do that you know! And she’s made centerfold of the year! Now what will that bring Bud?
Notice Bud’s impression still in the side of the van? Also note that there are four vendor tents in frame three and they are all serving some variation on dogs… cheese, hot, corn & fried. Plus I toss in Jed Clampet’s famous “well, doggies” in the same frame. Kinda a doggie frame.
This comic sends our redneck brothers off on a high note, and Jeff still flirting with the hot sister. Guitar players do that, the little snots…
“Help Me, Rhonda” is a Beach Boys song that was not only their 2nd number 1 hit single in 1965, but one with a bit of history too. One, Al Jardine sings the lead vocal, which was rare at the time. Brian Wilson had taken over production in the studio from his father, and during the recording of the single version of the song, the father bursts into the studio and bitches out Brian who finally explodes. All on tape for the masses to hear. The father was a bit of a dick, BTW… The album version of the song sucks, and on the Beach Boys biggest hits collection back in the 70s called “Endless Summer” they put the ALBUM version on instead of the single version. I was crushed at the time. What a rip.
Is it possible that I only just now noticed the Mystery Machine? Sigh. Hey! The rednecks are Wolverine and Sabretooth! (Or maybe Bo and Luke Duke with sideburns.)
I do love the redneck logic in this one though. LOL!
Yee-haw!
Rhonda went HD 1080p and wins the “bestest 1977 chick” award!
Bring the “New Debbie” on! 😀
Kevin: Yep, the Duke boys and cousin Daisy 1977 style…
Sideburns were all the rage in the 70s thanks to Elvis… Though I’ll go with the X-Men reference any day! 😀
When the gang went to the nudist colony a while back, they borrowed Chet’s van, and yes, it’s the Mystery Machine!
You’ll be seeing more of Debbie very soon… and for the right reasons too.
Hey, how about a Rhonda’s Centerfold for t-shirt buyers instead of the Boobie Blondie? 😀
Does Bud have two different sisters who were both centerfolds? Back in this strip – https://1977thecomic.com/2008/04/25/04252008/ – Bud’s sister is listed as Brenda, but here as Rhonda…?
DOH!!
I can’t believe I did that… No, Bud’s sister was Brenda… now how the hell did I do that? This old age thing is scaring the hell out of me sometimes and I gotta double check these things a little better.
I could have sworn I named her Rhonda…. Now I gotta come up with why her name changed… Perhaps a stage name. Anna Nicole did that, so why not Bud’s sister… well, one is a lot smarter than the other for one.
But apparently my memory is not what it was! Thanks for pointing it out!
Either way, it was very clever how you wrote in the “Stage Name” to the plot.
Well done.
Thanks Jeremy! Yeah, the stage name thing seemed natural once it came to me. Wish I had done it on purpose!
🙂
I make a habit of printing all my strips out as I go so that I can go back and reference them. I know my memory is crap, (it always has been) so I don’t rely on it. Paper memory is WAY more dependable.
Yeah, I’ve considered doing that, but I’ve also started a file on character information and stuff. Kinda a bible of sorts for the comic. And yes, I’m putting in their names… But also things they’ve done so I can make sure I don’t do the same thing twice, or I can refer to it in a later strip.
Well golly! Them there’re two right nice goin’ a’courtin’ smiles if I ever did see in all mah days!
