Don’t Panic! I’ve got mine, do you?
In the meantime enjoy hitchhiking across the galaxy with our favorite lead singer in rock and roll comics! If you don’t know what Towel Day is, then Google the sucker and go find out. Or click here to read up on it!
And the perfect song for today? Boston’s “Hitch A Ride” of course! Now, get hitchin’!

The 1950s or 60s recording of this book was awesomeeeee
The first radio series of H2G2 was in 1978. The first book was published in 1979.

Yes, I was going to say I was pretty sure it came out in 1979 in book form. Either way, still a great book!
And there you go – yet another example of how quickly historical stuff (hey, pop culture is history too!) gets distorted and jumbled. It’s funny when, say, an episode of Doctor Who set 5,000,000,000 years in the future shows a 1940s-’50s jukebox and has the supposed ancient history expert saying it was ‘known as an iPod’, but all it takes is barely a decade for dates and correct info to start going runny around the edges 😛
Speaking of Doctor Who and of Trillian BTW, did you know that The Doctor and his daughter had a baby a few weeks ago? And that the baby’s maternal grandparents are The Doctor and Trillian? And that The Doctor and his daughter are getting married in a few months, and their wedding will almost certainly be attended by The Doctor, The Doctor, The Doctor, The Doctor, The Doctor, and The Doctor? And all this is from real life, not a Doctor Who episode!
*brain a’splodes*
woops lol my bad. all i know is they’re really old. about 12 years older than me haha
What a great way to celebrate towel day! Lorraine as Trillian…..yummmmmm!
Lorraine as *anything* makes my day… but she fills in nicely today, yes!
😛
Lorraine fills in all manner of things nicely 😛
“Now there’s a Frood who really knows where his towel is!”
“It’s at times like this I really wish I listened to my mother.”
“Why, what did she say?”
“I don’t know, I never listened!”
“It’s a bit like being drunk.”
“What’s so wrong with being drunk?”
“You ask a glass of water!”
Sorry, all time favourite show, I have the CD Box set and the original Scripts! 😀
Keep this theme going as long as you want mate!
The book is full of stuff like that! Mr. Adams could spin a great tale indeed!
Had my towel with me all day at work, so there 😀
I *had* to have one with me today… the day started off with a TON of rain coming down, so it made sense to have one!
🙂
All we got was a few piddly raindrops. But one *has* to know where one’s towel is!
“So long, & thanks for all the fish”.
You’re welcome… oh, wait… 😛
“And another thing…”
😛
This would make a great desktop. I just bought the book on Kindke. Planning to get the rest of the trilogy as well.
Well worth the time and money to read this trilogy. Adams entertained me non-stop.
Yeah, this will be next month’s Desktop for the Calendar thingy over there in the sidebar.
be sure you get all five books in the trilogy.
Great job Byron, International Towel Day never looked so good. 🙂
Man, Byron! You’ve got her looking incredibly beautiful! 😀
Anyone up for lunch? I heard of this great place at the end of the universe.
Up around the bend, I understand… 🙂
Well that and a very important book.
Oh freddled gruntbuggly/thy micturations are to me/As plurdled gabbleblotchits on a lurgid bee…
Third worst poetry in the universe.
Being from the Boston area I never turn down a ‘Boston’ tune, I turn it up! However, wouldn’t the Eagles tune “Journey of the Sorcerer” (which was used for the opening/closing credits of the H2G2 radio show) have been a more apropos theme for the day..?
PS: Yes that’s my real last name!
Just read through all of the archives in a couple of hours, I loved them 😛 Don’t know why, but my brain feels like mush though, guess I must have visualized all that beer and joints too vividly (not the only things I guess) 😀
I’ll read the subscripts about the songs too sooner or later, I like the concept 🙂
saving all my towel for Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster Day … I keep trying to make a good one in hopes that I get so distracted as to forget how to fall down.
Would have been happy as a short-order cook in the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. “Yer want salty nuts with that ..?”
And, uh, yah. Lorraine looks about as spectacularly gorgeous as ever you’ve captured her. That one can use framing. 😛
I have some prints I did of this last year and it does indeed look good on glossy paper. I should do prints someday of stuff like this…
i’ve got front row seats for the next Disaster Area show. this time, the minimum safe distance is 2 light years from the planet, and yet you *STILL* have to wear earplugs… wtf is a h00py fr00d supposed to do?
Hoppy indeed… 🙂
Trufax for yez: Hotblack Desiato was the name of a fairly upmarket North London estate agent ‘s (USA ‘real estate company,’ I suppose…?). I don’t know if Douglas Adams deliberately used their name as it was such a charmingly funky one, or if he.d driven past it so many times – as I also did! – that it sort of embedded itself in his subconscious. Whatever the reason, Hitch Hiker’s Guide became world-famous and after a while I noticed that the business had changed its name to Hotblack & Co. – presumably to get away from all the prank phone calls! They still exist BTW, and have changed their name back to Hotblack Desiato. A triumph of pop-culture somethingorother…
— TAFKAN, washing her head at you
With all the ballast she has going in the front, she really won’t NEED that towel… 😉
Great work.
There’s a towel in this comic? Oh, wait…
😛
Great to see this one again mate! And re-read all the Hoopy stuff that’s posted here! 😀
Yeah, I had taken this down from last year and decided to put it back up again for this year. Next year she’s going to be wearing the towel…
🙂
Pleeeeease tell me you mean ‘*almost* wearing’… 😀
Maybe she and Robyn could be sharing a towel ..? When a good friend doesn’t have a towel, a hoop frood could only do the honorable thing, y’know. If you rip a towel in half … do you then have two towels? As per after Our Patron Saint of the Carlin: it’s like breaking a crumb in two, I don’t think you end up with two half towels.
Philosophical questions like this keep me engrossed for hours at a time, especially when 420 Brew is involved.
Good song, go listen to So Long, and thanks for all the fish.
The Eagles, “journey of the sourceror”. Nothing else will do!
