First, welcome my son’s 8th grade class to the webcomic. Adam started school today and all his friends (well, the boys anyway) sneak a peek at the comic when they can. “Hey, boobies!” is what they mostly snicker at. Well, here’s some boobies for you boys! Enjoy!
We end up at the hair salon on Friday as Lorraine’s job hunt starts, as well as the hunt for her birth mother. We shall see where that takes us.
What can be said about Nazareth? Another great Scottish band that just rocks the walls on occasions. Besides fitting into today’s comic very well, because Lorraine is messing with a Son of a Bitch, “Hair of the Dog” got me through my Freshman Algebra finals in May of 1976. I was totally tense as math is not my strong point (why else did I end up a video editor?) and not only that, the final was at 8:00am on Monday (after a weekend of drinking). So I sat there stressing trying to remember what 2 + 2 was when suddenly, blaring out of my dorm came Nazareth’s “Hair of the Dog”. I so cracked up as the blaring song pissed off my instructor. I got into the song, relaxed and managed to pass the exam. So, to all Freshman entering college this fall, remember your favorite song in your head while taking a final exam and you too will pass with flying colors. Or not, but either way you’ll at least enjoy a good tune!
*********************
That totally works in theory but if I imagined most of my favourite songs while doing an exam I’d probably start feeling stoned. LOL.
The song just made me relax for a bit and that helped get past the “damn, I’m bad at math” stress and just take the test. Helps to take a breath now and then…
🙂
Boys will get their porn wherever they can.
I second that thought! 🙂
There’s a comic here? All I see are tits.
Look up… come on, you can do it… up a little bit more… Bingo! They have eyes!
😛
Reminds me of the latest Foamy cartoon. They kept having signs saying “er eyes are up here. ” Or ” Look up here please” lol It was cause she was shirtless with nothing but tape X on her nipples and her tits are huge! lol I mean way bigger that Troubles’ and thats saying something. lol http://www.illwillpress.com/BOOKCOVER.html See! lol
Scantily clad women… hair pulling… thank goodness there was a Sox hat to remind me about baseball, balancing it out there. LOL.
Helps the inning go longer, if you know what I mean…
Try drawing, inking then coloring these comics. I’m staring at boobs all night long. No wonder I was tired when I got done!
🙂
And you say you’re not aren’t a dirty old man! lol You can’t trick me! lol
Ah, “Hair of the Dog”… Another one of those formative LP’s that would get serious consideration on my “If you were stranded on a deserted island & could only have 10 albums…” list. For me, not a bad track on the disc – the title track still sounds great thirty-freakin’-five years later, and the cover art was killer! Byron, you’d commented earlier about not caring much for cover versions of songs, & for the most part, I heartily concur… However, some bands had a knack for doing covers & making the song uniquely their own (Judas Priest’s “Diamonds & Rust” anyone?…). Nathareth was one of those rare ones, as they have cover songs on most of their early LPs… “Love Hurts” & ” Beggar’s Day” on “Hair of the Dog” (the first a hit for the Everly Bros., & the other by Nils Lofgren), & through ’77’s “Expect No Mercy” they covered: Bonnie Dobson – “Morning Dew”, Leon Russell – “Alcatraz”, Woody Guthrie – “Vigilante Man”, Joni Mitchell – “This Flight Tonight”, Bob Dylan – “The Ballad of Hollis Brown”, Lowell George – “Teenage Nervous Breakdown”, The Byrds – “So You Wanna Be a Rock ‘n’ Roll Star”, The Beach Boys – “Wild Honey”, Joe Tex – “I Want To (Do Everything For You)”, and “Busted” – hits for both Ray Charles & Johnny Cash! Unfortunately, by 83- 84, I think the “rockness” of their output was spotty at best, & nothing ever came close in either quality, or chart success as their 70’s stuff. All Hail 70’s Rock!!
You are correct… this band could do covers. If done in their own style (and a good one on top of that) then I can dig cover tunes.
I generalize a lot, but for the most part, cover songs suck. This band, however, is the exception big time!
Yes… LONG LIVE 70’S ROCK!!
They have such lovely eyes.
LOL! Yes, they do…
Actually, I have just changed the way I draw the women’s eyes.. adding in pupils and color to their eyes…
Subtle, but it’s there…
🙂
She has enough hair to spare. Be a friend! 😀
Italian women always seem to have a ton of hair… so yeah, they could share some!
🙂
What I find amazing is that “Love Hurts” was first recorded by the Everly Brothers. Just shows the universal love that is music.
Now, you’re gonna find this amazing (or not) but I had totally forgotten about “Love Hurts” being a cover and by the Everly Brothers to boot! The same guys who did “Wake Up, Little Susie” made a song Nazareth covered? Holy crap!
~toddles off to Google the Everly Brothers songs…~
Yep. Me a Robyn fan, all the way. 😀
Was gonna remark on Lorraine’s eyes in The Letter, but got distracted with other duties. Wanted to look up old strips to make sure I hadn’t been missing the color … I recall making a remark about Orphan Annie Eyes not too long ago and it kinds caught me off-guard to see those light-brown/amber-ish beauties.
The other half of that remark was gonna be something about your Scooby Doo crossover causing you to to draw Daphne’s eyes on Lorraine. Not quite an exact match … but, still.
Looks good on her.
One day you’ll have to draw in a detailed close-up to show us the mystery of how Lorraine’s shirt actually fastens. I’ve been studying this mystery, quite carefully, for a while now and haven’t been able to solve it … 😉
I’ll let the cat out of the bag… Lorraine’s blouse is held together with a safety pin. A regular button is not gonna hold those fun bags in…
Yes, I told you all Hanna-Barbera was a major influence on me… so naturally my feminine eyes would reflect their style.
🙂
The Sox Suck! lol jk. But if I liked baseball i’d have to support the Orioles. They are my home team after all.
Well, being a life-long Cubs fan, I can’t disagree with your opinion. But lately it’s been hard to even follow the Cubs. They have been worse then suck…
continuity problem!
where’s the sling? 😉
HA! No way! This is Robyn we’re talking about. Would *you* keep your arm in a sling if your clumsy roommate had just set *your* hair on fire? Nope. Besides, not much keeps our Irish/Catholic drummer down for long.
🙂
