I know you all come here for 1977 stuff, and I’m getting to it, but a client’s email needed to be transferred from one server to another, and I had to use IMAP to transfer tens of thousands of emails from one host to another. Been pulling my hair out with that. But I did manage to get this done last Friday as I waited to see the new Godzilla.
My buds over at the “Underfold” wrote a nice review of the new “Godzilla” film and I love their comparison. Some fan-boys out there were complaining that the film lacked screen time for Godzilla. Although this was not an origin film, it did pay homage to the original from 1954 nicely. In short, that review compared “Godzilla” to the film “Twister” and it is a great comparison. Yes, the film is called “Twister” but it’s more about the human leads, and it’s the same with Godzilla. But, we’re paid off with a great big battle scene at the end of the film that more than makes up for any apparent lack of screen time for Godzilla himself. I for one was not disappointed with the big guy’s screen time, it felt balanced to me.
I saw the film twice, once on IMAX 3D and the second time on a normal screen. Never once did I get bored. The film is well paced, packs in some good story-telling along with nice character development while at the same time building to a nice climax with Godzilla at the center of that scene. It is worth the money and a very entertaining film.
And that roar… still give me goose bumps, man!

I really did enjoy the movie, and I love this comic. Thanks for the shout out, man! Woo!
No problem, Brian. 🙂
Well it does connect to the 1970s as Godzilla did exist at that time. So yeah, it is 1977 issue in a way.
I love drawing the comic too, but when the “real” job beckons, I have to tend to it first. Normally there’s plenty of leeway in my schedule to allow time to draw the comic each week. The past few weeks have been ultra-packed for some odd reason. Some of it due to family stuff and, like this week, due to client issues.
This email thing has been a real eye-opener. I am going to find a way to better manage my client’s emails, as taking 2-3 days to copy and move 50,000 emails is insane. But it looks like it will wrap up today or tomorrow, so I hope to have a comic on Friday. 🙂
Here’s an even more fitting connection–in 1977, Italian filmmaker Luigi Cozzi attempted a colorized version of the original Godzilla movie.

The year that just keeps on giving and giving… thanks for that link! That’s awesome! What the guy did was weird, but how cool it is that it’s from 1977.
What’s even better is that ’77 saw the U.S. releases of two films from the G-Canon:
-1973’s Godzilla vs. Megalon, via NBC airing it on prime time, with an intro by John Belushi dressed as the Big G.
-1974’s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, aka Godzilla vs. The Bionic Monster (and aka, a week after its release in the U.S., as ** vs. The Cosmic Monster).
Can’t wait to see it
It’s a lot of fun. Ignore the reviews and just relax. 🙂
Better it be Godzilla’s tail in the air than say, Peppy-Le-Pews! We all know how that would end!
I’m sucker for fart jokes and I originally was going to have her fanning fumes from his tail. I grew up and decided to do this version. 🙂
“Kramer vs. Kramer vs. Godzilla,” the forgotten late 1970s sequel…
That Godzilla could be William Shatner preparing for his staring role in Godzilla versus Astroboy played by George Tiki. Director “Godzilla is not a subpar neoexpressionist actor so quit hamming it up captain jerk besides hams not kosher and no he does not get beamed up.’ Godzilla roars as people in Tokyo cower and sumo wrestlers are about to cry and soil their diapers. Hark Astroboy will do his best to defeat Godzilla with his jet boots and magic speedos he punches with puny fists only to be stepped on moaning in pain he says “I have failed you.” General “True but you have amused the sumo wrestlers in time of crisis you are worthy super hero ahahahaha.”
