Welcome back Robyn and someone with some common sense.
I’ve known several women who have faced the challenge of raising a child on their own, and it is not an easy task. In this case Rose just assumed Robyn was curious about her age and how she ended up single. Nope. Our drummer girl merely wanted to know what to put out in the bathroom as a good host would! I try not to explain the comics, but I know from my friends and family doing what Rose is doing is very hard and sometimes unrewarding. But as a father of three sons who more than likely, if they ever appear on TV, will immediately shout out “Hi Mom!” The little pricks…
Flaming Youth from Kiss? Rose would have been 17 having Lily in… 1957. What a time! Rebel without a cause for sure. She must have had to put up with a lot in that age, so Rose is our flaming youth from the 50s. Stand back and we’ll watch as the gang learns a few things. Or not…
🙂
Which puts Rose at 67 at the 2007 point, if she’s still around at that point. I thing you said that Lily had passed on earlier. Lily would’ve been a still not that old 50. (Says the 36 1/2 yr old…)
Now that I see the new version of your eyes on Robyn, I really like the look. I suggest you keep them.
RE: Jeremy – I forgot Robyn’s eyebrows in the 2nd/3rd panels which in the light of day makes her look a bit odd, but the new eyes feel good to me too. I’m always experimenting with ideas while at the same time remaining true to my original designs & intent.
Thanks for the feedback!
🙂
RE: vince – Someone’s been taking good notes! Yes, without being too much of a bummer, Lily has passed on by 2007. I haven’t even begun to go down the 2007 storyline yet, but Rose is still around as Bud’s daughter mentions her in the present tense a few comics ago. Yes, Bud and Lily are the same ages roughly. Makes writing them easier…
🙂
I am working my way to the day when 1977 has run it’s course and I can take the characters into the present. I have roughly titled the MKII version as (1977+30) giving a slight nod to those Algebra geeks out there. I’m a long ways from getting there as there’s plenty of Sex, Drugs & Rock and Roll to come yet!
Keep taking good notes! You’ll need them!
😀
Now I’m hoping that you do a Rose flashback at some point. I’d love to see your take on the late 50s — greasers, rockabilly, civil rights marches… well, probably not so much of that since you don’t seem to be particularly interested in injecting period politics in you comic, but hey — whatever you do I expect I’ll enjoy it.
RE: Makkabee – You read minds like a Jedi Master. I have wanted to do a 50s storyline for the longest time. Kinda contrasting 1957 with 1977. I had at one point flirted with a time-travel storyline for Bud or the entire gang (remember the professor with the Time Travel TV set up? Oh yeah, I think that far in advance…)
I have to get the demo tape portion of the storyline told, as we’re heading into summer, and summer means ROAD TRIP time for 1977. But after that, I’m planning a pause in the major storyline to bring up this 1957 story arc.
We’ll see how it goes. 🙂
KISS!!! 😀
As you might have read on my blog a couple weeks back, Kiss was the first band I ever saw in concert, so my heart still holds a special place for them no matter how cornball they are. FLAMING YOUTH WILL SET THE WORLD ON FIRE!
Also, great comic as usual 😛
Have to agree, the eyes do make a big difference, in the very best way!
(Robyn is still hot! But then I’m showing my age coz so is Lily!) 😉
Or am I just a sad old git eyeing up comic characters! <>
Bob
You’re, not your’e. Saw it and had to say something..
I didn’t get into KISS until the Unmasked album (I think I was drawn in by the comic style cover), but they were my favorite band in the ’70s (strange choice for a little black kid from Virginia surrounded by Cameo and Funkadelic albums)Great strip! I love this storyline.
Tying in a 1957 story line will be cool! That year has allot of relevance to me, as I myself am a ’57 model, & my Dad graduated from HS that year as well. My Mom is a little younger than Rose, tho, as she was only 15 when she had me that Summer. I credit my folks for allot of my early & formative music tastes because they were into so many different styles of music – from 50’s & 60’s Rock of course (the first time I ever heard Iron Butterfly’s “In a Gadda Da Vida” was coming home from school one afternoon & hearing it blaring out the open front door as I walked up to the house – my Mom had gone out & gotten the LP earlier in the day…), to Folk, R&B, C&W, you name it. But I first heard R ‘n’ R groups & people like The Doors, Steppenwolf, Jefferson Airplane, CCR, CS&N, Buffalo Springfield, Janis Joplin, Dylan, Neil Young, etc., because of my parents.
RE: Gen – Aw crap! Mr. Typo at work again. No matter how many times you look at something you never catch stuff like that. Once I get back to the ol’ “studio” I’ll make quick haste of fixing that!
Thanks!
🙂
RE: George – I have a similar story… I bough Michael Jackson’s Thriller album. Now, I don’t fit his music not because I’m white (I’m about as pale as they come too) BUT because I’m a HEAVY METAL THUNDER rocker kinda guy. But there I was buying MJ’s Thriller. It was/is a damn good album. My Mom taught me “musical tolerance” as I like a lot of different styles (Johnny Cash, Dvorak, etc.)… but always come back to good ol’ rock.
Glad you’re along for the ride, man! 🙂
RE: unclemac – 1957 was a great year… another one of those pivotal years (space race, Elvis, Chevys) and a lifestyle I’d love to bring to life with 1977.
Your mom sounds like mine. She introduced me to sooo much music. She started me playing clarinet in 4th grade, which lead me to playing bass in high school which lead me to sex, drugs & rocka and roll in college. I have Johnny Cash records alongside Tchaichovsky and Dvorak which sits next to my Deep Purple albums. I loved Iron Butterfly’s “In a Gadda Da Vida” as a DJ as you could actually take your time going to the bathroom and having a smoke while that damn record played for like 14 minutes. Love it for the music too.
Count on 1957 dropping by later this year. I gotta make it fit into what’s going on somehow… I’m just making this up as I go along too, so we’ll see!
🙂
Ah, yes! Back when it was “cream rinse”, and not “conditioner”. Nice touch for the authenticity of 1977!
I didn’t think they called it cream rinse any more. You know, it’s bugging me that I “get” so much of this comic…
