Welcome to the offical launch of Sunday comics for 1977. In the grand tradition of print versions of Sunday comics, the first two panels are designed to be “cut out” as a “throw away” joke. Many newspapers would (will) cut the format of Sunday comics from 8 to 6 panels, so the first two are either glorified logos or a quick joke that isn’t necessary to the main plot of the comic. Yes, I know that comic syndicates pay fairly well, but man, what a pain in the ass. Thankfully, there’s the internet and our wonderful world of webcomics.
The song title for today’s comic is from 1966 and is by a vocal quartet called the Vogues. Their song was used for a bit by Drew Carey as the theme song for his TV show in the early days. But the line for me that strikes home is “living on money I ain’t made yet” which is sooo true these days. No wonder the mortgage companies went belly up. Heh, they expected us to PAY them. Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids…
Monday thru Thursday updates this week. Five updates now! Yee-ha! …. oh, wait… Far out, man!
Nice comic!
And never mind the syndicates, I think it rocks with or without the jokey bit! 😉 (Although more is most definitely better!)
Glad to see you enjoying the extra strips. Probably not as much as us readers though! 😀
Keep ’em coming!
Hey Bob! I’m also interested in seeing how the hits come in. I imagine they’ll be later in the day as most folks are “recovering” on a Sunday morning, or they’re busy with church or whatever. Sunday is NASCAR day for me, so I get my internet stuff done early and then relax with the race.
Thanks for the support and great comments! 🙂
That’s really great! I love the approach you’re taking with 1977. I get such flack for still treating my strip like a newspaper comic, but I love the old-school ways. You’re doing fantastic!
And everyone should check out George’s webcomic, Addanac City, over on the right side bar under Webcomics. Go. Laugh. Get new underwear.
🙂
Dude, I don’t know who told you that comic syndicates paid “well,” but they were lying to you.
