A nod of the baseball cap to the Latvian Olympic Mens Volleyball team who beat the Amercian team 2-0 in an upset in the first round of the Olympic Beach Volleyball games. Not sure of their final placement, but the Americans sure had their hands full. Maybe too much Red Bull…
Oh, the title is a silly pop song from 1974 by a group called First Class. One of those summer hits that got played every 10 minutes on the AM stations across Chicagoland in those days. Ugh.
Aha! So THIS was the reason I should have watched the Olympics!
If they had Lorraine standing in the background of ANY event, the ratings would have been through the roof!
It was so surreal watching the Latvian team whoop the American volleyball team. I just stumbled upon the match, and since I had already picked Latvia as the location of this “road” trip, I watched and cheered on the underdog Latvian team. The Americans were rather cocky before hand, especially the announcers letting the world know this would be an easy match for the American team. “Never count your money at the table, they’re be time when the dealin’s done.” 🙂
LoL I was waiting for this part. 🙂
What I thought was funny was that after that match where the US lost to Latvia, everytime the words “beach volleyball” and “Americans” were mentioned together, the commentators also always mentioned Latvia and its upset win. Any press is good press!
We watched the match. When Latvia won that final point, I’m sure the whole block could hear us cheering! My daughter was tearing about the house furiously waving her Latvian flag. 🙂
That’s super cool! Great thing about the USA is that it’s cool to show your “spirit” for your native country and not get shot at by the government (well, not yet). I too was pretty excited to see the underdogs win. We cocky Americans need a good spanking now and then to keep our feet on the ground!
🙂
Well, I admit – If there was a Latvian competing, then we cheered Latvia. If there wasn’t, then America got our cheers. 🙂
*chuckles* Nice joke. I’m pretty sure, though, that sports bras were not invented until after the 1970s.
Howdy Satyrblade & welcome! Well, I just went to WikiPedia (and we know how accurate that site is… not) but here’s what it had to say about Sports Bras…
“The first sports bra dates from 1977.”
Son of a gun! I had no idea… I’ll have to look further and confirm that date, but I’ll take it for now! 🙂
Don’t trust an woman in a sports bra and never under estimate American women especial Robin she’s mean ole Bully.
