Jeff? A math wiz? Who knew? Well, he does read a lot if you’ve paid attention over the years. This math ability will come in handy a tad later in our story. Hint. Being both a blond and a stoner, Jeff has an uphill battle of preconceived notions about him. Luckily, he’s a stoner and doesn’t care.
🙂
Aw, Joan Jett is so cute, isn’t she? She’s also the kinda chick that will knock you on your ass for even saying that too, so there you go. A friend of mind met her backstage a few years back at one of these local events that hires has-been rockers to come and play. She was none to friendly and looked down when he took her picture (he was the official event photographer and had his credentials on). Eh, I guess she didn’t want to be playing a “corn fest” in Illinois that night. Sucks to be you, Joan baby.
Here’s “Bad Reputation” to go along with Jeff’s need to keep up his stoner front.

Yeah, but I’m still now hiring Jeff as a bookkeeper.
I don’t know… he’d make a good booker. “Wow, man… you spent money on what?!”
🙂
Preconceived & assumed notions can work in your favor, definately! Back in the day when we’d go to concerts & sporting events en masse, I’d get put at the head of the line, cuz with long hair & a beard, security would always check me for contraband, assuming that I was the hardcore stoner in the bunch. My cleaner cut friends behind me would usually pass thru with the goods, usually unchecked of course!
While Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” is more appropriate seeing as how Plan 9 also has in its ranks a sassy female with ‘tude aplenty, I’d have gone with Thin Lizzy’s “Bad Reputation” – one of my favorites by them, a kick-ass rocker, and released in 1977 to boot! Jett’s didn’t come out til ’80.
I’ve always been able to walk into most places. You just have to “appear” like you belong there. Waving at security guards as you walk into a sports arena works… especially if your sporting camera gear and a quasi photo pass. Today, they’re too strict, but back in the 70s, I use to get every where with my TV-10 News pass… and TV-10 was just a college station with no real credentials!
Ah, the good ol’ days…
I went with Joan because of the Rock Chick thing for sure. I pulled a “6 degrees to 1977” with this song title too as Joan was in the Runaways in 1977, so…
But the Thin Lizzy tune rocks as well. 🙂
hrm. sounds like my dad during his college days. He was an odd combo of math-major-pothead-astronomy-geek-biker-dude. Now, he’s kinda just “Dilbert”.
Astronomy-geek & a biker-dude. Gotta meet this guy. 🙂
Have you seen the film The Runaways yet? Bad-ass, and totally 1977 (and ”76, and ’75…).
No, I have not seen it. Knew it was coming, but was unaware it was out in the theaters. Being a hardcore Fanny fan (the original all woman rock band that could play the pants off of the Runaways) I have not paid it much attention. Most of the press releases talk about how the Runaways were the first all girl band. Um, hello? Fanny?
That’s okay, the Runaways got a film only because of Joan Jett’s solor career in my opinion. But, I will have to go see it and see how the handle the “era” on film.
🙂
Sounds like someone just went from an idiot to an idiot savant. 🙂
Seriously, had to look up “savant”. Man, am I a redneck or what?
But now that I know what it means… yes! 😛
Just started reading 1977 about two days ago. Now I’m all caught up. Got to say- I love it. But whatever happened to the pinups you did of Lorraine? I never saw them.
Hey TimOFMyLife… I did reply to your comment on the comic, but the pin-ups are now at my deviantART account.
http://tr1guy.deviantart.com/gallery/
I will start up a Gallery here now that you’ve motivated me to get one going. In the meantime, you can see Lorraine there. But the NSFW one is blocked until you join DA. Don’t join, I’ll put the pin-up here in the Gallery. The Gallery will be up next week.
Thanks for reading! Love new readers! Welcome to the party, pal!
🙂
My bad- I thought I would receive a notification for the reply. Whoops!
No problem man. I don’t think my comments have an RSS feed yet. I will look into that feature for the site.
🙂
LOVE the shadow panel. Love it love it love it. Soooo effective in the midst of all that glorious colour – give yourself a cookie!
Excellent strip and comic! Keep up the killer work.
