Sometimes shit happens, and who you gonna call? Not Lorraine…
I spent more time on this damn strip then most of the others combined. I fussed and fussed over Robyn’s position, expression, her hand, her foot, the damn engine… then I even re-drew Lorraine’s face in the third panel as well. All in all, I worked on the third panel way too much. Yes, Robyn’s in the 3rd panel… *look* past Lorraine… oh, yeah, Robyn!
A little Italian today as I prepare you for a series of comics that feature mostly the girls. Bud and Jeff are taking five as Robyn and Lorraine take center stage for a the next few strips. As a slight teaser, Lorraine gets a job starting Monday and we’ll follow those antics for a bit. Friday, Robyn heals from her wounds of today!
Ah, Mr. Tom Petty and those Hearbreakers. Rockin’ 1977 with “American Girl”. Yeah, it’s about a girl ending it all, but I still like the song, so I used it for today’s comic title. Robyn and Lorraine are American Girls, just not in the sense of what Petty’s lyrics meant. I don’t have to make sense, do I? Right…

ummm …. there’s dialogue or something in this strip? All higher brain functions shut down by massive influx of cleavage.
I spent a long, hot summer working a professional landscape crew with a girlfriend who dressed like Robyn a joyful amount of the time. Needless to say that every work day really amounted to about ten hours of foreplay.
Come to think of it, she was a light-brown haired Irish-Catholic tomboy, too … No wonder I got a thing for Robyn. Especially when she’s working up a sweat, tight, intense grip on her tools … uh. Gotta go …
Ay caramba! It’s a wonder anyone can read the dialogue with the way Lorraine’s looking. And the way she’s almost dressed. Yowzah!
American Girl is one of the all-time more-awesome-than-awesome classics. Which is why it’s been covered so many times! Nothing else ever quite matches the original though…
hooray for vox guitars!
and angry half-dressed italian girls. ;D
Well no trouble may fall them while she’s around, but once she “turns around” that’s another story.
Saw your response above, “gonna follow them on some jobs”, cant’ wait, that’ll be a fun story arc.
Those old cars were a beast to open the hood.
Funny – I missed the previous strip, which referenced Triumph. When you mentioned “American Girl,” my first thought was “American GIRLS” by Triumph… and then I checked the previous entry… in which you mentioned Triumph. Their song’s not nearly as good as the Tom Petty track, but it’s funny the way things worked out with that mental connect-the-dots. 🙂
Oh, yeah – and the idea of a hot barefoot-and-tank-top-clad tomboy working on an old car? Priceless.
just a heads up
testa=head
di= (usually means) of
cazza= shit
so head of shit…. you guys do the math
Also, the reason i wrote cazza is because in italian different dialects spell some words differently so Byron and I are both correct
I was so entranced by that blouse, I didn’t even notice the hood falling on homegirl. Nice work, Byron! 🙂
Poor Robyn. I bet that hurts. Ouch. At least she has never been flipped and landed on her head. Man does that hurt the neck!
