And now they’ve seen “Star Wars.”Β π
As a parent, I’ve always thought the Jedi Mind Trick would be a cool way to teach your kids.Β “Don’t pee on the seat… monsters will eat your penis…”Β But alas, the Force does not flow with me.
No real trivia today, except I saw “Star Wars” TWELVE times in ’77/’78!! It was in theatres for an entire year, so every month you could drop by and see it playing somewhere.Β On it’s one year anniversary it went into wide distribution again and, yep, saw it again.
I saw it for the 13th time in a theatre in 1997 when Lucas hacked the original three.Β Han DID NOT shoot first, damnit.Β The Falcon leaving the Mos Eisley docking bay was very cool, but other than that it was a waste of time.Β But, my kids got to see “Star Wars” as I did… in the theatres!
May the Force be with you this weekend…
Awesome.
Yesssss!
You finally reached a new level in your development as a cartoonist: the Star Wars joke! π
A++
Well, a “Star Wars” comic was almost mandatory at some point with this comic as 1977 is the year it was released, so I HAD to have it in the strip at some point. But if you look at “Star Wars” through “purple haze” it is a really silly and funny movie. I mean just the name Leia Organa: “Lay an orgasm? What did he call her? Man, I’m high…”
π
Finally the moment I’ve been waiting for here! The Star Wars reference in your comic has finally arrived. Well done, sir! π
I saw Star Wars 14 times during it’s original run. (The theatre was within walking distance and my uncle ran the ticket booth.) I would offer that the whole thing was all about silly fun from the very beginning. The names, the villains, the incestβ¦
Well, anyway, nice comic. I am CERTAIN that if Bud and Jeff found themselves in the Star Wars universe, they would end up in Mos Eisley. BTW, does the extra detail in Chewie’s eyes mean he’s really a girl?
Bud out, Debbie in.
And make it haste!
π
Have a nice weekend, man!
RE: Kevin – Wasn’t it cool just to go and see it again and again? Yes, it was pure fun. Something Mr. Lucas forgot about when making the current trilogy…
RE: ferabreu – It’s a Friday and I didn’t follow your comment… a little more info please? π
i was wondering when youd make the “star wars” reference. i commented about that awhile back. i made my dad take me to the movies 12 times to see it we even went to ca. on vacation (disneyland, knotts berry farm, magic mountain)the whole bit .one night my dad asked us if we wanted to go to the movies. i said yes and what did we go see “star wars” of course. i still watch it every time its on tv, although i hate most of the redo’s (the jabba the hutt thing is cool but the new explosions suck) great job byron. oh and i was wayyyy too young to go see it stoned but i did see the remake stoned does that count?
Way cool, man, way cool. And I agree… the original trilogy was best… the new one sucks… π
I’ve seen the original several times, and forget George’s revisionist history: Han DID shoot first. THPPT, so there!
Uahahahaha…
Well, I was talking about the header!
You turned Bud back to normal. I said: kick him out, bring Debbie in.
Jeff’s face with the girls around is PRICELESS, heheheheh!
Hope you have a good week.
Slowly making it up the archives…
In 1977, my sister worked for the husband of Alan Ladd’s sister, Said sister calls me up and asks if I want to go this SF movie before it opens… Yep cast and crew screening of “Star Wars” three weeks before release! and YES I and my buddy were high!
Still have the “coming this summer” poster and the cast and crew card from the screening.
Holy crap! The Holy Grail of Star Wars stories! And yes, Star Wars was much better in an altered state originally. That poster and card would be worth a few bucks on eBay I bet! You should contact Steve Sansweet over at Lucas Films as he heads up fan collections and I bet he’d be interested in what you have! I met Steve at last year’s C2E2 convention and he was kind enough to buy my book and he loved the comic of Bud wearing a Stormtroopers’ outfit for Lily. I made a new fan that day for sure!
Humm, I guess I should do that.
I work in the film industry (Fox) and have run into many folks who worked on the first three films. The credited picture editor (other than George and Maria) is a friend and it turned out that he didn’t have a crew card of his own, I gave him one of mine. My buddies up at “The Ranch” are all in the sound department, never thought to ask about fan stuff!
A couple of them are up for best sound Acad Awards for TRON 2.
I was born in 1978, mom was preggers with me when she took my big brother to see Star Wars in the theater. I saw it later when I was six.
Vader scared the crap out of my older brother. He was three at the time when he saw it.
Of course Han shot first, what is he supposed to do wait to get shot.
STUPID!
