Oh my God! Lorraine’s gone blonde! I would suspect not for long… we’ll see. Hang on to your ass, Mr. Bergstrom, there is nothing worse than a woman scorned…
Enjoyed this one too much as I went nuts fixing this and that and in general spent too much time in the “sketch” mode. Getting the curves right on the women folk is not as easy as one might think. Guys are easy, women are hard… hey, that’s true in life in general! We comic artists should write books…
“Blonde On Blonde” is an album from 1966 by Bob Dylan. It is regarded as one of the more influential albums in rock and roll as it solidified Dylan’s transition from acoustic folk singer to an “electric” sound. Many hard core fans of Dylan’s folk music thought he’d sold out, but the album went to No. 1 and double platinum status despite a few pissed off coffee house folk music fans. The album was also rare for the times as well as it was a double vinyl release. Not many musicians or bands rank a double album as it was expensive to press, package and thus puts off many potential buyers.
The single, “Rainy Day Women No. 12 & 35” (Best known for the chorus “…everybody must get stoned!”) reached number 2 on the US charts despite being banned by many stations for “drug references” ala the chorus. Apparently Dylan recorded the song while stoned, and listening to Dylan laugh at the other musicians, you get the idea that’s true.
I used the album title as a slight reference to Lorraine now being blonde. Oh, Robyn’s t-shirt is a little nod to the webcomic “Imy” where the lead character sports a black t-shirt with “rock” on it. Robyn’s take on it is more 70s. Oh, the creator of “Imy”, Irma, may very well be sharing a table with me at a show in Sweden next April. Never invite me over, I will more than likely show up. Especially if there’s food involved.

wow, must have been one helluva party!
some nice curves youve done there dude 😉
I have always found it better to leave “images” of a wild party to the your imagination. It is much better than what I could ever draw, and no censoring too! But yeah, I get the impression myself those Swinger parties could really get going sometimes. I’ve seen footage of “dude” ranches and stuff, and man, that was some hot stuff!
Now I’m wondering what Lorraine would look like as a redhead.
I’ve mentioned before that doing a redhead’s hair coloring is really hard as unlike other hair colors, it’s really a combination of several shades to look right. I can pull off most hair colors with a solid color and a little shading, but not so with red heads.
But for fun, I may try and do her up as a redhead to see what it looks like. Now that she’s ventured down the dark path of hair coloring, she’s screwed, especially with that much hair. A hint to a future comic!
😉
Kickass!! And remember, if you come, you get your own table, ’cause it’s free! But it’ll be next to mine! 😉 God that would be so cool!
OooO!! A whole table! Even better. You’ll be surprised to find out I’ve never traveled abroad before… so I’m an international traveler virgin. I don’t even have a passport (yet). With the USA being so big, I figured I had to hit the “big spots” over first. I’ve done most of the popular ones, so now it’s time to take on the world. Watch out Sweden… former redneck headed your way!
Yee-haa… 😀
You got it backwards B.
Travel overseas first so when you are old, all that is left is RVing the US
Oh, I’ve done the damn RV thingy already… not my bag. Renting a condo by a pool is more my style, thank you!
🙂
Pretty sure you’re the first person I’ve ever known to say that drawing guys is easier than girls. That’s kinda fascinating. Why do you suppose?
Love the “I heard a rule breaking” line. That was great!
I find getting the curves and proportions “just right” takes me longer on my women characters. Maybe for me it is a lack of experience in drawing the female form… my previous comic “endeavors” were mostly male characters. Also, I may literally just enjoy drawing them so I take longer to do it. That’s not a sexual joke, but I am having fun drawing the women of 1977, so perhaps it’s just me dragging my feet while doing something I really enjoy (man, I am opening myself up for ALL types of joke here…)
Also, guys are more “boxy” in shape and I find that easy to draw. Way back when you actually see Bud transform from a guy to a girl, I did the “Hulk-out” and had no problem with the big muscles and proportions of that drawing… and that was back in the “early” days of the comic and I’ve come a LONG way in my abilities since then. Who knew…
🙂
Drawing chicks is tough. I always have trouble figuring out how big to draw the knockers without looking too suggestive – since there’s not much to suggest in my strip! Well done, man.
Boob size is always an issue with me… I am all over the place with my characters. But, I’ll keep drawing them until I get them right! I love being a cartoonist, don’t you?
🙂
That shirt looks damn good on her! Great strip!
I knew this one girl who hated sleeves and would rip the arms off of every t-shirt she owned. That has stayed with me and I’ve added that characteristic to Robyn. Robyn is a loose cannon anyway, and I think the ripped sleeves fits her aggressive nature.
And, it looks hot too! 😀
Can I say you definitely “nailed” the women in this update? Or would that be taken the wrong way? Why do I even care? LOL
Well, even in my prime days of the late 70s, women like Lorraine were way out of my league… but it never hurt to ask just the same. The worst they could say is “No” or “Who the $%#% are you and get the hell away from me!” I usually got the first reply.
Thanks for the compliment on “nailing” the women folk. It was a goal of mine to improve the way I draw the female form this year, and I’ve come along I think. I’m no Adam Hughes, but then, he doesn’t draw a comic strip either!
Oh, I’m enjoying a freshly purchased pumpkin pie thanks to our earlier exchange on Twitter! Ummm… pie…
🙂
“That woman was sexy…Out of your league? Son. Let women figure out why they won’t screw you, don’t do it for them.” [http://twitter.com/shitmydadsays]
Great minds work alike? The twitter site is just quotes from this guy’s 70 year old father, its a hoot.
Thanks for that link! It’s very funny. My son is named Justin, so I think he should start something similar as I’m always bitching at him with some Southern colloquialism or other similar nonsense! Example: “He’s so stupid he couldn’t poor piss out of a boot!” That stuff…
😛
Wish I could’ve been a fly on the wall at that party. You’ve gotta do a Director’s Cut Behind-The-Scenes Expose Edition. 🙂
I hadn’t thought of that… I hate drawing groups of people… All that work for one little frame, but if I did it as entire wide panel (the 3 or 4 panels into one) then it might be fun. Maybe I could have a contest on “find Bud” in the mass of bodies and stuff…
Your idea has been officially stolen… Thank you! 🙂
You want to be a fly?! You are talking about a pre HIV swingers party in California with all the gorgeous babes, and you want to be a FLY! Now that is weird. You been reading Kafka again?
*calls cops again*
hello? the illinois idea bandit is on the loose again and he’s stolen another idea. better get the tasers and the swat team this time.
😉
–dee!
Professionals steal, Amateurs copy… and I am a professional… ;D
Curves look good to me Byron 🙂
Practice makes perfect… so I’m enjoying my practicing a LOT…
🙂
Nice work. Lovin’ it.
Thanks man! I appreciate that! Keeps me going! 🙂
For someone who’s never been to a lifestyle party you hit the details spot on.
Sorry to bump this comic but I just stumbled upon your page. Love the Strip. And coming from someone who’s been in the lifestyle for a few years you portrayed us quite well. Soft, Full, rules, everything. Great Job!
Keep up the Awesome Work
I do research stuff so I can be semi-informed/intelligent to include it in the comic. I’m glad to see the research I did was worth it!
Glad you’re along for the ride! I’ll keep them coming as long as readers like you keep coming back!
🙂
LOL! Figured you did plenty of research.
We’ll definitely be sticking around and following the adventures. Already passed this link on to a bunch of friends both lifestyle and no.
Keep’em Coming
Bleach blond Lorraine looks like Kelly Bundy even as bright and over sexed as she is but my role model for cool mini dresses and high heels are cool. Looks like fantasy island remember the twin engine seaplane and the little guy saying “Boss the plane the plane something tells me Lorraine should board it fast.
