Calling Dr. Carlin…. Dr. Carlin report to the ER… Gluteus maximus extractus, indeed!
Today’s comic title comes from a scratchy 45rpm record I own!ย “Stuck in the Middle with You” by Stealers Wheel hit #6 in the USA and features vocals by Gerry Rafferty who would later have a huge album in 1978 called “City to City” and it features his trademark song “Baker Street”.ย “City to City” finally knocked the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack from the top of the charts in July of 1978.ย Thank you for that Gerry.ย Bonus day… I’ve included what I think is the best song off “City to City” called “Home and Dry”. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.ย Not your typical head-knocking rock songs I normally go for…

AHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHA!
brilliant, byron.
you know, people always SAY they’re gonna do something like that, but you just never get a visual…’bout time someone put the, erm, well, yeah… ๐
hilarious!
and yay for bringing dok carlin in for another cameo. the hippie dippy doctor man should fit right in around hollyweird. ๐
–dee!
You always hear “I’m gonna shove this up their ass…” when someone’s really ticked off, so I just put a visual to it! It’s funny, whenever I draw something a bit odd (naked people, Bud in the shower with Lily’s mom, that sort of stuff) people always seem to walk in on me. This comic was no exception. People have learned not to ask me what I’m doing, as I will tell them, and sometimes it’s best you don’t know…
๐
I would just like to say that I am not Dee, despite Dee’s comment looking like it could’ve been written by me…
You both have a love for music, that much I know. So what if you’re the same person? I get two birthday presents regardless….
BTW…. the Exam Room number is my birthday. ๐
i’d rather have a bottle in front of me …
err….
๐
i am not tafkan, and tafkan is not me.
after all, how can you be in two places at once, when you aren’t anywhere at all? ๐
so have you learned what to draw in order to get a frosty cold mountain dew delivered to you when said person walks in on you drawing a character in a compromising position? seems to me that’d be quite useful… ๐
–dee!
You know I heard a remake of “Stuck in the middle with you” sometime back I think in the early 00s or late 90s……too many late nights listening to piped in music at work.
If nothing else, my putting these songs on here reminds us ALL of the original artists who did these classic old songs. I’m digging having the songs on the comic, makes my day!

The originals are usually better. Too many people do a remake and change it on a whim, it seems.
What is with the bandages. Did she miss the mark the first few times? OUch
Funny as well as I know this song, I never heard of the bands name.
I would say she probably beat him up badly, then the Sticks were only the “Coup de Grรขce”!!!
Antoine hit the nail on the head… Robyn beat him up and for the Grand Finale, put the sticks where the sun don’t shine… The guy’s butt didn’t look right until I put the bandages on it, then it was a perfect match!

“Blood makes me queasy.” LOL!
PS: The doc looks like Eddie Rabbit.
“Drivin’ my life away…” Man! That brings back memories! He was voted best “new” country artist in 1977, even though he had three albums out by that time. Yeah, that’s “new” alright…
If the Doc’ had thicker hair, he’d be a ringer for ol’ Eddie! LOL! Man, that’s too funny!
(BTW, Eddie passed away like in 1998 of lung cancer. Too bad, as I enjoyed his cross-over stuff)
I always state that’s the main reason I didn’t become a doctor, I can’t stand blood. My Mom was a Registered Nurse too, so I was exposed to medical books and hospital ER stories and the like, so you’d think I would have gotten use to it.
I don’t see me as a doctor though. ๐
Dude! You so nailed the repartee between them in such a situation! Kudos! oh so frabjoyous YEAH! to see the return of Dr. Carlin, too!
(!did!I!use!enuff! !!!!?)
Thanks, man! I really enjoyed working on this one! And, yes!! You did use a lot of exclamation marks!! Which! Is! Cool!!
๐
Hahahahaha great title. And a doctor who’s afraid of blood. OH my!
I had to give our resident hippie-dippie doctor some sort of comic angle. And what better comedic ploy then a doctor who faints at the site of blood? You know there’s doctors out there who do that…
Carlin had a great line about doctors… and it goes something like this… (my memory ain’t what it use to be…) “You know there’s a doctor who graduated last in his class and someone has an appointment with him tomorrow…”
Classic.
I can’t hear “Stuck in the Middle” without having flashbacks to that scene in Reservoir Dogs with the guy getting his ear cut off.
Never saw “Reservoir Dogs” as much of the past 20 years has been spent escorting one or more of my sons to see films ranging from “Land Before Time” to “Wall-E”. I have a couple decades of films to catch up on… thank God for DVDs…
It is funny how an old song like this will get attached to a movie or commercial. “Hey, it’s Wrangler Jeans song…” No, butt-wipe, that’s “Bad to the Bone”… I first heard this type of discussion when “Bohemian Rhapsody” came on the radio and my son announced it was the song from “Wayne’s World” WHAT?! That’s QUEEN!! And so it goes…
…and now kids will thing “Bohemian Rhapsody” is a Muppets’ song. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. ๐
And I have always loved “Baker Street.” Just a great song to groove to and sing. Back when songs had cool lyrics. YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!
That dude’s in a very bad place. ๐
Yeah, would make sitting hard to do…

Have to disagree with you on the track. “Baker Street” is the best on that album in every way, and on one glorious summer’s afternoon in London formed a sort of incedental theme track for my visit to The City (the one where you can find the street in question) as it was blasting from the open pub doors everywhere I went.I liked most of the tracks on “City to City” tough. I’ve been cursing for years that although I can get (and have in fact got) “City to City” and “Night Owl” on CD, “Snakes and Ladders” doesn’t seem to have been issued in that format.Happy Thanksgiving everyone (everyone American, anyway). Once again it’s time to Tryptophan the Light Fantastic.
“City to City” is one great album. It has a range of sounds and styles and of course Gerry’s voice is intoxicating. One critic of the day… I believe someone in Rolling Stone… bitched about how Rafferty’s vocal melodies were pretty much the same, but he covered that up with great backing tracks. Like “Baker Street” has the classic sax riff in it. The guy’s point was you didn’t whistle Gerry’s vocals, but rather the riffs. Which was kinda stupid as that’s probably true for a lot of rock songs. Eh, critics..
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone this side of the pond!
๐
“Blood makes me queasy” really sounds like a Carlin line. Good job!
Thanks! LOL! I love that line too!
๐
Go Robyn! LOL
Just noticed the change in characters in the top header. LOVE it. I gotta do that with mine…
Yes, I love Robyn too… quiet until she rubbed the wrong way.
Okay, now, I won’t tease you too much but I changed the header right after Halloween… it’s okay, we’re professionals…
Now, when you change your header, you can poke me in the eye with a sharp stick as I’ll probably miss it too…
๐
that should cost a LOT more!
“Will the REAL Doctor Finnerman report to neuro-surgery, Immediately!”
Light bulbs and shot glasses are a lot more common objects to have to remove, and a lot trickier. Show up all the time in ERS ๐
