To fellow creative brothers & sisters who have had to belly up to the bar with the devil and sign on the dotted line with a producer or manager, I give you my sympathy… for the devil!  That would have been too easy of a title by the way.

From the stories I’ve heard and what little experience I had with a musical agent, this is not too far off from what they really are.  A great story I’ve read is the Beatles manager Brian Epstein offered to pay them a weekly sum (something they could live on but not be rich) for the rest of their lives for the rights to their music.  They turned him down luckily, but many a starving artist has gone for that sort of deal and regretted it much later.

Also, how many artists have we seen on VH1 going “my manager/agent/dealer ripped me off for millions…”  VH1 wouldn’t have a network if it weren’t for thieving agents/managers/producers.  Bud and the gang are about to find that out.

“Master of Reality” was just an awesome record, and it still rocks to this day, some 38 years later.  Slow and dark, the album reinforced Sabbath as “the devil’s music” even though many of their songs have Christian subject matters.  Go figure.  But the album title fits perfectly for today’s comic as Bud is about to find out how producers are truly a Master of Reality… their own usually.

This was fun one to draw.  I realize that the upcoming storyline has a lot of dialog.  Comic strips characters that just stand and talk can get boring real quick, so I’m gonna be testing myself to see if I can up with “natural” but exciting poses for all those “talking head” frames I’ve got coming up soon.

See you Wednesday!

What better song from this album then “Sweat Leaf” eh?
