So today starts the “1977 Again” storyline. From this point forward you will see the gang, some what equally, in 1977 and in present time. There’s a lot of stuff I’ve referenced over the years and it’s time this all comes out, and I couldn’t do it while stuck in 1977. There are many stories from 1977 left to come, so fear not.
But let’s take today’s comic. There are several clues here, mostly involving the pen in Bud’s hand. Hmm… Plus, I had to use the Family Guy Star Wars poster in the background. I use to place posters in the background of the comic and this is a nod to the old days. There will be questions from you all undoubtedly, and let’s just say they’ll be answered over the next few weeks.
And a fitting way to kick off the new 1977 is to play some Kings! I have cranked this song since 1980 when it released. Finally got it on CD some years back. Freakin’ cool song and deserves to played LOUD! Let’s switch it to glide!

Welcome back, Byron!!! Have to say I have missed my 1977 krewe!! Hope all is well on the homefront and your wife is doing wonderful (healthwise).
New drummer for us and in the studio writing songs madly! Be looking for a new CD within the next 6 months or so (hopefully!).
Peace, brother!
Ziggy
See? Life is hopefully shaping up for us both! Be good to have a new UNDUN CD in the collection! So, we’re both back…
🙂
30 years ago today, it was MTV. Now this. Rock on Byron, ROCK ON!
Rock on, right back at you! Thanks! 🙂
And I can remember MTV launching. It was kinda like “Big deal, so they’ll play only music videos…” Heh, who knew?
🙂
Nowadays, we wish they’d play music videos.
Awesome!! I want my MTV…..????
Welcome back! It’s good to see you and the gang again, and also glad to hear things are picking in your life. It’s especially good to hear that Cindy’s doing well. All the best to both of you, and keep on rockin’!
“Dave’s not here, man…” Glad to be back! I shall keep on rockin’ for sure…
🙂
Righteous! 1977 lives again! Good ta have you back.
I hope I wind up as happy as old Bud in the future with his music store.
Whenever I see the name Nick I immediately think of Firesign Theatre’s “Nick Danger” private eye spoof they did. “I spell my name Danger!”
And 1977 shall live for a long time if I have my way about it. 🙂
Whoa! He grew old?! But—but that can’t happen! 1977 is supposed to be like Neverland!
Wait until Lorraine arrives… 🙂
Welcome back, Byron! It’s good to see (and hear) 1977 again. 🙂
The tunes will always be here as long as Grooveshark isn’t shut down!
I’m not sure how they can get away with that, but they seem to.
And thank you! Glad to be back.
Good ta have ya back son & to hear that your better half is doin’ well! Great tune to kick of 1977 Mark II (III? IV?). I was workin’ in the music retail biz when it came out & I always dug it & still do. It’s one of many songs in more-or-less the same vein & from the same time-frame, that no mater how much I heard or still hear to this day, don’t get tired of, like: “What I like about You”, Romantics, “867-5309, jenny”, Tommy Tutone, “Turning Japanese”, The Vapors (also a great MTV video speaking of…), & even the Knack’s “My Sharona”. All great party tunes IMO. I see that present-day Bud is doin’ what I wish I still was; after playin’ music, & working radio as a rock DJ, selling it was my next favorite gig. Rock on, Bud!
All good tunes, man! This is officially 1977 MKII. When I first introduced Old Bud in January of 2009, I did a little recap as I had just gotten a ton of new readers and felt a “best of” episode was necessary, and it also helped introduce Bud and his daughter. But some folks called that a reboot and I had to scratch my head. Nothing changed except adding some elements in that weren’t there before. Ah, well.
But this is a big change as we’ll occasionally bounce around in time as the gang relives moments from 1977 to the present. So, that is a change worth of a MKII.
Hmmm… you played in bands, was on the radio and worked in music stores… are we lost brothers somehow?
🙂
Whew! There! All caught up, and just in time for the new stuff!
I dig the hell out of this comic. I was only 7 in 1977, but it sure was fun watching you teenagers back then living it up.
So I gotta ask, did you see Star Wars as a kid? It had a big audience of kids that most of us forget about.
And I’m glad you’re along for the ride! Lots more to come!
🙂
I’d be lying if I said that the name of the music store was not one your most intelligent choices ever made. I say this w/o bias of course! [smirk]
Welcome back sir!
Why Scott, what makes you say that about Jenkis Music store? Hmmm… It was like you were named that or something… Oh…
Glad to be back and trying to keep the train for falling off the tracks anytime soon. We’ll see how life treats me!
🙂
Hey I know you are skipping ahead from 70’s to present day and back. But how dare you skip the 80’s. We get not love? haha
Glad to have you back.
Hang on to your complaints… the 80s will pop up here soon enough… remember Bud got married in 1987, so we’ll get some 80s fix for you all… bad hair, big glasses and all.
I remember the 80s better than I do the 70s… got married and had 2 out of 3 kids in the 80s, so there you go! 🙂
funny when people think about these things… like me… will i be a musician or a comic artist? i’ll have to wait and see heheh.
also, love the family guy starwars poster in the background
i also enjoy this song, and have played it more then once 😉
It was a classic the moment I heard it the first time. Great party tune!;
I have yet to grow up… as one can tell by my sense of humor!
😛
awesome :3 its great to still have that kid in you. like i’ll be watching , and drawing, cartoons till im 70 and beyond!
From a joint to a ball point. At lest he’s staying close to music, just not the way heenvisioned he would I’m sure. Oh well, we all grow up and cast off the things of youth, but that doesn’t mean we don’t long for them from time to time.
I’ve always managed to keep music in my life… from playing in small groups to doing some recording and the like. Nothing major, just keeps your appetite whet!
🙂
I image he’s like the guy at my record store. Been around the block a few times and find you all the Lps you need.
