I knew I was never really going to capture Karen Carpenter’s look, so I just went with a hair style she wore in the later 70s. She also is wearing a matching top to her brother, which they did on occasion. I hated wearing my sister’s clothes…

Girl fights in Jr. High? Heck, I remember them from college!
But, man, the first time you saw two girls going at in Jr. High was cool. Everyone’s hormones are flying and here’s two girls on the floor kicking, scratching, pulling hair and screaming… YES! We 13 year old boys spent a great deal of time in the bathroom stalls on that one for sure!

“Hurting Each Other” was on my list too… I had a TON of titles for this one. “Family Affair” (sister coming to brother’s defense) “Only Women Bleed” by Alice Cooper as it’s a girl fight, “Stranglehold” by Nugent, and on and on…

Man, girl fights were awesome in Junior High. We used to crowd around them and it was almost impossible for teacher to intervene quickly. The part about you hating wearing your sisters clothes….well we’ll just pretend we didn’t read that. 🙂
Yeah, with three older sisters, the hand-me-downs really sucked. Pink stuff and all that crap. I didn’t get a “boys” bicycle until 3rd grade… crushed Mr. Happy the first time I hopped down only to find that “new” bar boy’s bikes have. What the hell is that all about? The ones with the most “in the danger zone” gets a lucky metal bar to land on? Bull…

To be fair, from a strictly geometrical approach the ‘boys’ version of any bicycle with same diameter and offset of tires will be far more stable in riding than the same as a womanized one, so that extra bar is a symbol in many ways …
Of course, in the 70s boys’ popular bicycles around here were both ugly and unstable as hell. Don’t know how they’re called in English, search for ‘Bonanza-Fahrrad’ to see which ones I mean.
And honestly, I was very happy about getting my cousin’s outgrown ‘girl’ bicycle at around 8years, because, after all, even back in the day I realized that this was at least a serious one, and not some crappy toy.
I’ll just file this under “things I’ll never get about boys.”

I never saw a girlfight when I was in school – possibly because I hardly ever noticed any of the other students as anything more than uninteresting blips on my radar. First actual girlfight I saw was in the loo at a London Irish nightclub, and I was totally gobsmacked – all I could think was ‘you daft bitches, THAT’s not the way to fight! Get in there with your elbows for fecksake! Use a rabbit-punch to the throat! Nut them, for crying out loud! Sheesh, nails and hair-pulling are sooo lame…’
FWIW I was *in* some fights when I was a very young girl at school. They were very short fights. I won them all, thanks to the above-mentioned elbows, rabbit punches, nutting, body-blocking… 😀
Knowing you as long as I have, I would not want to be on the receiving end of fist fight with you… I bruise very easily.

Now now, I’ve not beat anyone up in a very long…oh wait, there was that irritating granny I threw across a greengrocer’s stall a couple of years ago for queue-barging…um… ~whistles and stares innocently at the ceiling~
Seriously though (oh all right, I *did* throw her across the room, but let’s just move on, shall we), my streetfighting skilz have come in handy over the years. Sometimes for dealing with drunks – it’s amazing just how much violence one can get away with (for self-defence, honest yeronner!) through being small and female – and sometimes for quite literally saving myself from Something Unpleasant happening to me late at night when I was alone on the Tube, etc. Once bitten, y’know…
I’ve also taught other women the niceties of elbow-work, throat-punches, bodychecks, and so on over the years. Hah! I’ve made the streets safer for sistahs! And possibly less safe for the blokes 😛 😛 😛

Best girlfight ever–the mousey girl versus the loudmouth know it all. Late Soph. year of high school. I guess my mousey gal pal just got really tired of the loudmouth running her mouth. Next thing you know, they’re both on the floor and loudmouth is getting popped in her head with a ruler…LOL! She totally surrendered that day even though she’d go on to run her mouth forever…
Robyn will not disappoint, for sure… gotta just wait it out… (hint) 🙂
