Harry Nilsson is a legend in rock and roll. Besides writing the classic “Without You” ballad back in the early ’70s, he hung with just about all the heavy-weights of rock, including John Lennon on his famous “Lost Weekend” adventure (Google it if you don’t know what it is). Harry epitomized heavy drinking and bar fights. But for all that mischief, he was a great composer and singer. Today’s ditty is from a quirky, little known animated TV movie called “The Point” in which everyone in the world is pointy except one kid. Ringo Starr narrated and Harry Nilsson wrote the script as well as some songs. He got the idea while on acid. Say no more.

Partly, I never read Marvel back in the day. If I read a comic book, it would be only Superman. I rarely read any other comic books back then. I was, and still am, not a big comic book fan.
Comic STRIPS on the other hand, I’ve read them all practically.
personally, i tend to read comic books whose primary characters are all anti-heroes. come to think of it, i prefer books that way too. perhaps i’ll have to suggest a couple. 😀 my knowledge of modern comics kind of ends in the 90’s tho, since that was when i could last afford to purchase all the titles i enjoyed…

Actually, Jeff would rock as the classic Green Arrow if he grows a goatee. I think Arrow’s beard style has a formal name, but it escapes me. Anyway, seeing as Jeff is a full blown blonde, I think he would fit that better.
But, you never can tell what us cartoonists will do…

Just looked at the article… so a guy with a mustache and a goatee has a Van Dyke. I thought that was just called a goatee, but it seems a goatee is actually grown with no mustache. So, then all these years I’ve had a Van Dyke and didn’t know it.
If I’m wrong, someone enlighten me.

I know, but calling it Green Arrow Range would have been too easy. I didn’t say I wouldn’t do Hawkeye, just pointing out the obvious (as I do best) that Jeff would make a dead on Green Arrow.
I do find myself wondering if Dick van Dyke, who never had a van Dyke beard, was nonetheless a dick (as opposed to a Dick, which he certainly was. Um, is?)
From everything I’ve read and interviews I’ve seen of Dick Van Dyke is that he is truly a nice guy. He has had his vices like drinking, etc., that creative types fall into, but I’d say he is one of my favorite comedians from that era. I remember him of course from the ’60s TV show, but also from several movies too. He’s made me laugh, and that’s all that counts.

Love the reference Byron – The Point was great & Nilsson was one of my faves with the LP that “Without You” came off of – Nilsson Schmilsson, a strong contender for one of my top 10. One minor point of contention: “Without You” was originally done by Badfinger – written BF’s Pete Ham and Tom Evans.

Jeff has deffinately got it right; a weapon is only as dangerous as the person using it. That said, it seems the is only a danger to himself. XD
Truly, you have to be remarkably stoned to draw a reversed arrow back. I can see lifting it to the bow accidentally reversed, but to then draw it that way … must have been partaking of particularly kind herbage just prior to stepping out on the range.
The final panel makes me cringe in sympathetic pain. I’ve skewered body parts before (knives and screwdrivers, for examples, on several occasion), and the thought of a bow under tension with the point of an arrow inside the palm of my hand just makes the bones in my wrist weak with horror.
On a completely unrelated note … placing a reversed cigarette in your mouth and lighting the filter is quite doable; I’ve even seen people repeatedly attempt to light said cigarette because it doesn’t seem to be burning correctly. I may or may or have ever done that … 🙄 😀
I’m sure Jeff is sufficiently numb not to be feeling it right now…
I’ve seen folks do the same thing with cigarettes… a real riot too. I love drunk people (well, the happy drunks at least).

when i smoked, i used to do that *sober* sometimes. garrrrrgh. nothing like burnt filters. when i switched from straights to filtered cigarettes i did it with just about every other cigarette until i managed to perform habit reversal…
