Cats are just sneaky little shits, aren’t they? Our two kittens just suddenly appear out of nowhere and land on my desk or mouse or chair and scare the living crap out of me. Good thing I like cats.
You know that noise your gas stove makes just before it ignites? Yeah, that sparking sound… Poco has the same thing in the back of his throat and it goes “snik” letting you know flames are a comin’! Poor little pussy cat did not know the danger alarm. Bud will be happy.
(Okay, I know some you still probably light your stove with a match, but how much fun would that be for Poco? Come on…)
Yes, this cat now has the fever… “Cat Fever” ala ’70s rock group Fanny. Yes, Fanny. Some of you know of them, but for those of you who don’t, here’s what you need to know: they rocked your socks off. No, the name is not a reference to a butt or a lady’s Va-jay-jay (you crazy Brits) but rather a proper name. Yes, it’s a real name, stop laughing. I have ALL of Fanny’s albums that were released on Reprise records back in the day. If you don’t know Fanny’s music, then go to iTunes and search for their name and you’ll get the compilation album that is worth every dime. Sample a few tunes and you’ll get hooked like I did back in 1971 when I got their first single.

In regards to what ‘fanny’ means, I think ‘vagina’ makes sense. You can easily see it as a shortened version of the word. However, Enid Blyton’s famous five meant I knew it as a name /long/ before I knew any other meanings.
I remember Fanny and originally thought I remembered them as a British Group, but may well have been remembering Girl’s School! And I have a sneaking suspicion I may have even seen them at one stage, but the memory is fading.
Surely Fanny, the group, were making fun of their own name by calling themselves what every bloke thought of them at the time?
I like a girl who can take the p*ss as well as I can, puts me on the same intellectual level!

I know you’re a huge fan of Fanny Byron – I’ve seen your website featuring them. I also found out about Fanny early on, but purely by accident & in a roundabout way because of the group, The Grass Roots…. I was a huge fan of the Grass Roots & found out from a friend who was a huger fan – a member of their fan club no less, that they were going to be on the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. I hadn’t watched the S&C show yet – it was a brand new show in the summer of ’71 & on opposite of something else that we watched on Sundays if I remember right, but I managed to convince the parents to watch S&C instead, tuned in to catch the GR, & it turned out that I was a week early – the show featured Fanny instead. They played “Charity Ball”, & I was impressed enough that the next day I peddled to my favorite record store & asked about them. They not only knew who I was talking about & had their latest release – the Charity Ball lp, but their 1st one as well! I bought them both & was a fan from that day on (probably the only one in New Mexico….)
Their appearance on S&C was early in the 1st season & probably not too many people in this neck of the woods saw it, as I’d never met or run across anyone else who knew who they were until I happened on you & 1977. (I did tune in to S&C the next week & caught the Grass Roots by the way.)

The more I see of Poco, the more I think of the small swamp dragons in Terry Pratchett’s “Discworld” cycles which are bred as house-pets and pedigree show creatures. Bloody dangerous pets, as they too breathe fire or even explode at unpredictable intervals or if alarmed. Could I borrow shots of Poco to illustrate our Terry Pratchett Wiki? full namechecks and a link to 1977 will be provided! Thanks!

Sure, go ahead! I’d be honored! A good friend of mine used to edit Pratchett’s newsletter or something along that lines, so I’m semi-familiar with his works.
